Decorated Vet Sentenced in Theft Plot

Five years ago, Staff Sgt. Carlos Lopez played a key role in an operation that found and then killed Saddam Hussein's two sons. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his valor and cunning.

But on Monday, Lopez, his 12-year, highly decorated military career in ruins, stood quivering before a federal judge. His fall from elite soldier to convicted felon was complete.

At the close of an emotional hearing, the judge sentenced Lopez to three years in prison for plotting to rob a drug stash house.

Before he was sentenced, Lopez, 30, said he was ashamed of the example he had set for the soldiers in his unit and to those he taught as a ranger instructor at the Camp D. Merrill mountain training facility in Dahlonega.

"My apologies to all of them," Lopez, said, sobbing.

The shootings,

The wife beatings,

The divorces,

The motorcycle deaths,

The SUICIDES.

For each of those categories, I'm sure I have seen at least 20 to 30 accounts of each incident starting around 2004 that is related to the current Iraq/Afghanistan veterans. It seems weekly if not daily to read an account of this stuff happening.

And we may just be seeing the tip of an iceberg. What will it be like 2011ish and beyond when Maliki sends ALL our Troops home, including the mercenaries, to hit the street with their PTSD all at once?

All this hell on earth for vets, and much much more to come, because 15 Saudi's and 4 non-Iraqi/non-Afghani idiots kamikaze themselves at the worst point in our history, just after the SCOTUS appoints a blithering idiot to the pretzeldency.

How depressing.
