An airman stationed at the Air Force Academy hospital has been charged with raping or otherwise assaulting two airmen over two months in seven separate incidents last winter. He could face life in prison.
Airman 1st Class Derick R. Thompson, assigned to the 10th Medical Support Squadron, is not an academy cadet, and the charging documents list airmen, not cadets, as victims of his alleged sexual assaults.
His two-day Article 32 hearing at the Air Force Academy concluded July 31, and at press time it remained up to Academy Superintendent Lt. Gen. John Regni to decide if the case will proceed to a general court-martial.
Academy officials were tight-lipped about the alleged incidents, providing charging documents and saying there were two victims, but offering little other information.
Thompson is accused of rape, sodomy, buying alcohol for minors, using a government vehicle to buy alcohol and disobeying an order not to speak to 10th MSS members under the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
