Ill. loses last-ditch bid to keep F-16s

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Gov. Rod Blagojevich has lost a last-ditch effort to keep 15 National Guard jets from leaving the capital city for Indiana.

U.S. District Judge Richard Mills on Monday refused Blagojevich’s request to stop the move, saying there’s no proof the departure will cause Illinois major harm.

The first of the F-16 fighter jets are already leaving Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport, with half scheduled to leave later this month. The rest of the planes assigned to the 183rd Fighter Wing likely will head out in September as part of a nationwide reorganization of military bases.

The governor’s office says it will appeal Mills’ ruling. Officials estimate the move will cost Illinois 163 full-time jobs, including 24 firefighters.

1. Why Are they moving the unit

If there is a good military reason as to why these fighters are being moved then I can see no problem.

But, when you move this kind of unit from a state governed by Democrats to one where the governor was part of the current administration, you can't help but be just a little cynical.

2. You want to see the shit fly?

Wait until President Obama gets in the face of the vast military industrial complex when it comes to canceling needless weapons systems. The corporate pukes have outsourced pieces of systems to all, if not most, states. So to kill crap like the resurrected Star Wars radar it will take jobs from states, which will in turn make the local Rep or Senator subject to incoming flack from the constituents.
