FORT BRAGG, N.C. — Army Secretary Pete Geren said he has authorized nearly $3 million for emergency repair and maintenance at the Korean War-era barracks at Fort Bragg.

Geren visited Fort Bragg on Wednesday, about two weeks after a video posted online showed mold, peeling paint and a sewage backup inside one of the base’s barracks.

Geren said a total of $248 million has been authorized to address similar issues on bases worldwide, though few immediate problems were found.

Geren said the Army has looked at 148,000 rooms at bases in and outside the U.S. He said only eight soldiers needed to be moved to make repairs or renovations.

Base officials said none of the moves were at Fort Bragg.
