Carson-based soldier dies at Fort Irwin

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Army investigators are looking into the death of a Fort Carson soldier who died while at Fort Irwin, Calif., for training.

Fort Carson officials confirmed the death Saturday of 24-year-old Spc. Emily T. Ort of Willis, Texas, but had no other details.

Fort Irwin spokesman John Wagstaffe said Ort was discovered apparently asleep early Saturday, but when she didn’t wake up, she was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The cause of death was unknown. An autopsy is planned.

Ort was a member of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.
