Sailor found dead in Bahrain

MANAMA, Bahrain — A spokeswoman for the Navy’s 5th Fleet says a female sailor has been found dead in her home near a U.S. naval base in Bahrain.

Lt. Charline Brown says the body was found Sunday morning, and an investigation is under way. The sailor’s name and age couldn’t be released until her family is notified.

Bahrain is a tiny island nation in on the Persian Gulf. It is a key U.S. ally and home to the Navy’s 5th Fleet.

Back in October, two female sailors were shot and killed on the U.S. naval base there.

About 3,600 personnel work on the American base, located just outside Bahrain’s capital of Manama.
