Authorities arrested a man aboard Camp Pendleton, Calif., on Monday morning and charged him with murdering the 71-year-old grandfather of his ex-girlfriend, police said.

Mark Lim, 24, was taken into custody at about 5:15 a.m., said Lt. Kevin Rooney, a San Diego Police spokesman.

Lim is accused of stabbing and killing An Phung, 71, and also stabbing his ex-girlfriend’s 43-year-old mother multiple times in the victims’ San Diego home about 3:25 p.m. on Sunday. The mother underwent surgery and was in stable condition Monday afternoon, Rooney said.

Police said the ex-girlfriend, whose name was not released, also lived in the home, but was not there during the attack. The home is about a mile from Marine Corps Air Station Miramar and about 15 miles from Camp Pendleton.

Domestic assault charges were filed against Lim in connection with an attack Saturday on the ex-girlfriend, Rooney said. Lim was not an active-duty Marine, but police were working to determine if he had a connection to the base, authorities said.
