Nimitz sailor arrested during Sasebo port visit

A USS Nimitz sailor was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of shoplifting in Sasebo city, according to a Sasebo police spokesman.

Seaman Jonathan Richard Siegfried, 21, allegedly stole a black windbreaker, priced at about 8,000 yen (about $78), from a sporting goods store in Motoshima-cho around 5:10 p.m. Wednesday, according to the spokesman.

2nd ID soldier dies while on leave in San Francisco

CAMP RED CLOUD, South Korea — A 2nd Infantry Division soldier died Monday while on leave in California, division officials announced Thursday.

Pfc. Mark Sheehy, 26, of the 1st Battalion, 72nd Armor Regiment’s headquarters company, died in San Francisco.

The cause of death still is being investigated, division officials said.
