Djibouti command gets a new admiral

CAMP LEMONIER, Djibouti — Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa welcomed its new commander Friday in a ceremony attended by dignitaries, foreign military leaders and dozens of American troops.

After a year in country, Rear Adm. James Hart and his team relinquished command of the task force to Rear Adm. Philip Greene.

“We’ve kept a fast pace and we’ve accomplished a lot,” in an area of operations two-thirds the size of the United States, Hart said during the ceremony. “This is an exciting and challenging mission you’ll look back on with pride.”

Adm. William Fallon, commander of Central Command, praised Hart and his team, and tasked Greene with continuing the work established by his predecessor, calling the Horn of Africa a “critical region.”

“This command has expanded its work over the last couple years on its own initiative,” Fallon said. “The work is going to continue, the mission is going to continue. We’ll be here to try and make this area more secure, more stable.”
