Air Force merges equal opportunity offices
Air Force merges equal opportunity offices
By Bryce S. Dubee, Stars and Stripes
Pacific edition, Friday, February 1, 2008

As the Air Force Smart Operations 21 initiative continues to bring changes, some offices and organizations are being merged with the intent to maintain efficiency without a decrease in customer service.

One such change took place Jan. 1 across Pacific Air Force bases with the merging of military equal opportunity offices and equal employment opportunity offices for civilians.

“It’s an opportunity to do more with less,” explained Capt. Kira Cooper, Equal Opportunity chief at Yokota.

In the past, the two offices were kept separate because of the different ways complaints are handled for civilians and servicemembers, said Staff Sgt. Donald Lyons, Yokota’s EO non-commissioned officer in charge. Civilians can receive anonymity during the process, while servicemembers cannot, he said.

With the merger, Lyons said military and civilian staff are being trained to handle all complaints.
