A change of command at the top of the 1st Cavalry Division will take place Friday at Fort Hood, Texas.

Maj. Gen. Joseph Fil, who redeployed in December from Iraq after 15 months at the helm of Multi-National Division-Baghdad, will hand over the reins to promotable Brig. Gen. Vincent Brooks, deputy commanding general of 1st Cavalry Division.

Brooks will become the interim division commander.

Fil will receive a third star during a separate ceremony at a later date and has been assigned to command 8th Army in Korea.

The change of command ceremony at Fort Hood will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Cooper Field in front of division headquarters.
