NORFOLK, Va. — A sailor at Norfolk Naval Station will go on trial Tuesday for allegedly wearing military medals he didn’t earn, including the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart, the Navy said.
Petty Officer 2nd Class Dontae Tazewell, a hospital corpsman at Yorktown Naval Weapons Station, faces 20 counts — including forging military documents, falsely wearing a military medal or ribbon and making a false official statement. He was charged in August.
If convicted, Tazewell faces up to five years’ confinement for each count of forging documents and making a false official statement, and six months for each count of wearing unauthorized decorations.
