"Unforgivable Blackness" the Jack Johnson documentary on PBS
Did anyone else see this last week?

Ken Burns did a two-night documentary on the life of Jack Johnson, the first black heavyweight champion, enti. It was, to me, much more powerful than the fictionalized version "The Great White Hope", which I saw many years ago. Johnson was so outrageous in real life, choosing to completely ignore color lines and barriers in the early 1900s, which eventually got him into big trouble.

here is a link to the PBS site with more information.

It was really excellent, and I would like to see it again.

1. I missed it, but I saw the ESPN Classic show on him

And it was really good.

I'm sure the PBS one will be on again, and I'll catch it then.

2. I saw it and loved it.....
It was a very fascinating documentary...by which I learned quite a bit that I didn't know.....like the fact that "Birth of a Nation" was the first movie ever shown in the White House...during Woodrow Wilson's Presidency. The Documentary said that Wilson gathered his entire cabinet and all of the Supreme Court Justices to watch this (racist) movie that glorified the Klan. It also pointed out that one of the Justices had actually ridden with the Klan! They all loved it!

Then some wonder why progress for Blacks was so slow.....
