I tried several times to get into it but it didn't make me laugh. And I really hate that because I recently found out that my beloved Patrick Fitzgerald loved that show. Anyway, the character of Kramer definitely wasn't funny. I really don't know what people saw in that show. I guess you had to be a New Yorker to appreciate it.

Oh by the way, he should apologize for that racist tirade he made and he should do it fast, imo.

4. I saw the video
I was shocked. :wow:

I don't know how to respond to that outburst--except to leave. Glad to see that a few did leave. :(

2. I thought it was funny in a "selfish people acting stupid" sort of way.
Michael Richards is toast now, even with that rambling nonsensical apology today.

3. The show about nothing
I sat thru' an episode just to see what the fuss was about. I didn't get it and I want my half-hour back. :(

5. Seinfeld and Jennifer A. didn't have many multi cultural friends
I always thought that was odd.

When I use to visit NY a lot, my African American friends had lots of friends White and other races.

6. I loved the show
And I agree that you pretty much have to be a New Yorker to really get it. (All the Seinfeld haters I know aren't from NY, and I think it's telling) It's very much a particular brand of NY humor that's not really accessible to the masses. I was born and raised in NY and I've had my share of "Seinfeld moments" in life, which is why the show was so funny to me.

That said, I think Michael Richards is a fuckwit and I've completely lost any respect I might have had for him as a person. The number of apologists he seems to have on DU is disappointing but not surprising.

7. ...they come out like clockwork, don't they?
I mean the racist apologists.

Whenever there's an incident like this, they seem to come out in droves to share their expert theories on what truly makes on a racist. I just don't know what I would do, if not for their abundant benevolence--giving us all the benefit of their superior knowledge and skill the way that they do. :sarcasm:

9. I can't believe some of the rationalizations for this.
I had this argument with my husband when I first heard about this. "Cracker" and "Honky" are in no way equal to "nigger". As in, I don't recall any white men being attacked by dogs, hanged, or whipped while being called "cracker".

You'd think we were trying to get someone off death row, or something--all these arguments about the Constitution, Bill of Rights, etc. lol. So nice to see so many so unabashedly in support of the Bill of Rights as they pertain to "free speech." It's a proud day for DU. lol.

Good to see you, SemiCharmedQuark!:hi:
