3rd Party/Independent an option for perceived Dem indifference?
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A19678-2004Nov29.html

"What happens when having one option becomes tiresome? Dawson suggests that a genuine independent political effort has to begin on the local level. "We need to start to systematically have discussions in individual communities about what the major problems are that need to be focused on. In some communities it might be the availability of decent jobs. In another community, like Chicago, it may be to find out the conditions under which a retailer like Wal-Mart will enter the community."

This is certainly a viable option worth considering. It would also give the Dems an incentive to pay more attention to minority concerns or risk losing their votes.

1. I've been thinking the same thing

The Dem party definitely takes us for granted. The Republican party is certainly not an option for me, but many of my friends are switching to the Green party and I may do the same (since it appears votes may never be counted anyway).

2. It'd be good if the Reform, Green and Libertarian
parties united to get on the ballots in all states. And, with Independents at the debates our candidates will have to finally walk the walk instead of just using every opportunity to repeat their weak messages.

Our two-party system *might* work with an end to lobbyists and corporate sponsorship and we did away with a Commerce Secretary. Right now I don't feel constituents are as important in Washington as our international reputation or multi-national corporations.
