Where are they? The silence is deafening! And these are the people who got 90% support from African Americans? This is completely unacceptable. I hope I'm wrong about this, but if not, I'm definitely going green because there is nothing more to lose!!

For Immediate Release

"Hurricane Katrina devastated significant portions of the Gulf Coast and disrupted millions of lives but she didn’t and couldn’t destroy the spirit of endurance, bravery, generosity and compassion we have been witnessing during the relief and rescue operations. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the citizens of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama as they struggle with the aftermath of this devastating storm, and to their loved ones and families viewing the disturbing photos coming out of the region. Now is the time for all of us to come together to help the evacuees, refugees and survivors and rebuild the communities that have lost so much.

"While it is heartbreaking to see the loss and destruction families are facing, it has been inspiring to see the commitment of people across state lines as they work to make things better for those who are suffering. We also would like to commend the brave men and women who are leading the rescue operations; from emergency service officers to health care professionals to the power and water teams working around the clock to save lives. Mayors, sheriffs, governors, and countless federal, state and local workers and volunteers have demonstrated incredible dedication and leadership.

"We know that many Americans want to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina as they rebuild their lives. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), which is responsible for coordinating relief efforts, announced that the best way to help rescue and relief efforts is to donate to volunteer relief agencies so they can help more people.

"For more information on how you can help, visit FEMA’s website or visit the American Red Cross.

"America is united strongly behind the people of the Gulf Coast and from that unity we draw strength. Thank you for your support for the victims of Hurricane Katrina."

2. And Dean

This week millions of Americans fled Hurricane Katrina. Across the South families abandoned their homes and businesses, not knowing what would be there when they returned.

Many stayed behind and suffered devastating loss and injuries -- nearly a hundred have died that we know of, and hundreds of thousands need our help.

America is at its best when we realize that we are one community -- that we're all in this together. That means that each one of us has the responsibility to do what we can to help the relief effort.

The Red Cross is a great place to start:

http://www.redcross.org

They are already moving people and resources into the region to help. Donations will provide clean water, food, and shelter for disaster victims. The Red Cross web site also has important information for victims and their relatives across the country.

Many local Red Cross chapters are organizing volunteers to travel to affected areas -- doctors and nurses to provide medical care, workers to build shelters, first responders to assist in rescue operations.

You can find your local chapter here to learn what you can do:

http://www.redcross.org/where/chapts.asp

We are still learning the full story of the devastation, but there is no time to wait. Please do something now.

Thank you.
Governor Howard Dean, M.D.

I think we need to complement the dems that are visible instead of berating them when they ARE doing something.

3. Those are good but
at a time when even the media has grown big enough cajones to criticize the lack of planning and resources...this ain't the time to stay on the high road. If Kerry had won, don't you think the right would've been blasting him from every corner? Can you even imagine them asking their followers to rally behind their dem president? No, someone elected has to be the first one to say, "They screwed up and are still screwing up and people are DYING as a result."

Why do you think our head guy is keeping such a low profile? The only time you see him is when he's announcing, 'we're sending resources' and no one gets to question him about how things were allowed to get this bad! That's pretty darned alarming and, I hope, glaringly obvious to even his most die-hard fan. But, I strongly suspect they've got their heads together trying to figure out how to make political hay outa this so the dems might as well step forward first and suffer the slings and arrows, they have absolutely NOTHING to lose. STEP UP!
