LOS ANGELES - Actor Brock Peters, best known for his heartbreaking performance as the black man falsely accused of rape in “To Kill a Mockingbird,” died Tuesday at his home after battling pancreatic cancer. He was 78.

Peters was diagnosed with the disease in January and had been receiving chemotherapy treatment, according to Marilyn Darby, his longtime companion. His condition became worse in recent weeks.

He died peacefully in bed, surrounded by family, she said.

1. Oh no!
I liked everything he ever did and, especially, his voice! To Kill a Mockingbird remains compelling to me, especially considering the times in which it aired.

2. I agree. His groundbreaking role in TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD remains
a classic for all time. A lasting gift (educational as well) to share for all man-time.

RIP Brock Peters.

3. I hated to hear that.....
...it was a groundbreaking character. Also, as a Deep Space Nine fan, I loved Avery Brooks. Peters played his father in that series, and there could not have been a better tribute to him, than that role in his later life. I have no doubt, Avery Brooks would have been the first to have pushed for Peters to play his father, and I'm sure he did. RIP.
