Another Confederate flag thread
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=3795117&mesg_id=3795117&page=

with some brand new posters with less than ten posts defending the Confederate revisionist position.

How surprising?

1. Blah blah blah...it was about economics.
As I posted in that thread, it doesn't matter WHY you supported an evil cause, it only matters that you did.

Those soldiers that died under the hands of nazis didn't care if those men were only nazis because they felt that WWI was unfair economically to the German people. And people who vote for Bush can't say "well I'm not responsible for the deaths of the Iraqis because I only voted for Bush for his tax cuts."

Disgusting.

2. Here we go again!
I just clinked on the link(thx) and it is pretty overwhelming.

I didn't read any other than the initial thread because there's over 100 responses so I am taking your word. But then again do I really need to read them since I already know what's in them.

Sometimes I wonder if this is a progressive website or just a democratic one if you look at some of the posts.

3. No surprise there
with the revisionists. I'm glad the tombstones have sent the low-count freepers away, too bad the tombstones aren't as fast for the high-count freeper moles.

4. If Germany put the swastika on their national flag
All hell would break loose. Yet the conferate battle flag is allowed to be on state flags.

13. Hey Kleeb
Three cheers for German beer! I always hated beer until I went to a real Oktoberfest (sp?) and had some nice German beer...man oh man...:loveya:

I love Dave Chappelle too. I hope he's ok. Black Bush was like my favorite skit ever (and the Racial Draft).

Thats really cool, I however have my drinking cues from the Irish side of my blood, I like Guinness and Harp when it comes to Irish, would love to have Eastern European alcohol sometime. Oh yeah black Bush was the best, loved the Racial draft too, Chappelle really is one of the coolest guys out there.

7. True Southerners should take offense to that flag.
It celebrates a dark moment in history when Southerners are responsible for lots of great moments and great people.

Thanks for the compliment!

11. I am not really a southerner
My dad's family is from Pittsburgh, Pa and had a relative who fought for the 123rd Pennsylvania Regiment. My mom's family is from Johnstown, Pa best known for the terrible floods that occur there but I do in a way id with the south a little but I hate the confederate flag so much. Anyhow baout the Chappelle comment, no problem, that man has cracked me up so many times the past two years.

9. They're missing the point
for the war to begin with. Of course the vast majority of confederate soldiers didn't own slaves, but that's the distraction. The major point was to maintain slavery and the racial caste system that plagues us to the present day. All of that is in the Articles of Secession of the seceeding states.

10. Yes! I love it when people say "It was about independence" or "economics"
Not according to the seceding states themselves. I also love the people that say "well, to ME and most Southerners the flag means heritage, not slavery". Right. And to me the Swastika means luck and good fortune!

14. I always have to ask, "Which Southerners?"
My family is from the South (Virginia and South Carolina), and I'll be damned if that treasonous flag means anything but degregation and discrimination to them. There's a reason you don't see black people waving that shit around. It's a symbol of oppression, of a time when black people's basic humanity was not only not recognized but actively dismissed.

Jesus H. Christ on a trailer hitch, *that* is part of the Southern heritage. Slavery is a part of the Southern heritage. I find that a lot of the same people who wave that treasonous flag around are the same people who like to talk about the "good ol' days". A simpler time, you know when Negroes weren't uppity and knew our place and white folks always had a seat at the front of the bus. What is this nebulous "Southern heritage" really about?

Same shit, different century...:puke:

16. Southern Heritage
I totally agree.

My family arrived in the South at least 200 years ago. I think I qualify for "Southern Heritage".

I also have ancestors who fought for the losers side of the Civil War.
But, I do not feel compelled to honor a flag that represents hate and intimidation simply because of my Southern Heritage and ancestors who were Confederates.

The excuses to display and honor that flag are so flipping lame.

17. Native Americans used to use a symbol that closely resembled the swastika
I don't see them flying it in people's face and claiming it is part of their "heritage".
