He tells me I'm playing stupid but anyone with half a brain knows what he means...

Aside from his word usage...the idea that somehow a big butt is bad really chaps my non-pancake ass.

I wanted him to *see* how that description was steeped in racial and sexual stereotypes...by getting him to say what the usage of the word ghetto really meant in that phrase...

I was even prepared to hear "Jewish" ghetto and "Irish" ghetto as a defense(an attempt)...because then I was going to ask just what do Jewish and Irish butts look like...knowing full well there exist no stereotype of Jewish and Irish women's butts...

Cause everyone knows the phrase is " you have a butt like an Irish girls" (oh yeah..that's it...that's what white folks say when they want to remark on someone who does not have a flat ass)

And then he tries to claim he was talking about a white woman (like that makes all the difference)...when I know he was saying...this white woman's gonna have a butt as big as a black womans

it's insulting all the way around...

it holds a white standard of beauty up as the norm and demeans the body of black women (with large bottoms) as some caricature to be avoided...

when fact is..all kinds of people have all kinds of different sizes (of butts)and shapes (of butts)...

and it's just wrong on so many levels and I'm still so pissed off about I can't express myself properly

he was using ghetto like it was a synonym for black (like when people say "those 'inner-city' youth") ...cause you know, if you're black, you came from or live in a ghetto...and if you live in or came from a ghetto...you have a big butt ....that he feels is unattractive...and dangerous, it seems.

I don't care if he likes well formed asses or pancake asses...just what the hell does "ghetto" have to do with it?

why does he have to use ghetto?

In addition, it is unreasonable to hold pregnant women to an already unreasonable and arbitrary standard of non-pregnant beauty. It is offensive in sooooo many ways, they are hard to count.

How about a 'double wide front load meth trailer butt'. You know what I mean--looks like someone whacked them hard in the butt and the load shifted to the front. They always wear hip hugger jeans and think it's cute.

And I personally know the person who made that one up.

based on class..."double wide" "trailer"

and "meth" , honestly...seems like a racial stereotype to me...or would be in certain areas...as white people "appear" to be the majority users of meth...combined the phrase screams "poor white trailer park trash on meth"....which has got to be an obvious stereotype on many levels.

Coming from the south...if someone said that to me, that's exactly what I would "hear" them saying.

I'd hear a dig at the poor and at people who live in trailers...

but I could be wrong...or just too sensitive

I didn't put the proper 'tags' on it.

One thing I've learned from being here over 2 years is that you're never going to get away from folks who don't have the same sensitivity depth as you... might as well turn off the computer because you can't force people to care about how insensitive their posts sounds to you. For them, it's a big, huge "get over it.."

I learned that much from around the other areas of DU. Folks don't care if my feelings get hurt by what is posted and I've come to accept that and remember where I am and who I'm dealing with.

That's why I consider this folder to be a haven from the other madness here at DU.
