Unbelievable. One article and we have justification for "reverse racism" claims.

Thanks to Ultraist and Nothing Shocks Me Anymore and anyone else who took a stand.

1. I do realize that the original poster that started that thread
was more than likely flamebaiting but there's nothing wrong with talking about it. I saw a couple of copycat threads but it's no big deal. I am sure after today, we'll move on and talk about something else. Who knows, maybe the OP was trying to get Ms. Schiavo off the front pages.

2. Should have spoken up
I opened this bullshit thread and clicked it closed without a second thought. It was crap (and still is); I figured it was a feeble attempt to make a joke or a troll post. Either way, I never thought more than a handful of DUers would even dignify it with a comment.

I do still have a streak of naivete, don't I?!

Anyway, I haven't read all of the posts, just seen (via the link above) that they are a lot higher in number than I expected. I feel bad now that I dismissed this thread so quickly. I should have posted my feelings about this bs when I first opened the OP.

For what it's worth, this privileged white chick from the South thinks the term "reverse racism" is a stupid, meaningless phrase. Racism is what it is - discrimination or hatred of an individual or group of people because of their race. The term "reverse racism" is just convenient way for defensive white folks to deflect the blame for the very real transgressions of the not-so-recent past.

4. On second thought
Now that I went back and read all the posts, I'm glad I didn't jump in with my thoughts about what a bullshit post the OP was, because it would have just been additional fodder for the flamefest the never-to-be-heard-from-again original poster started.

That said, I did enjoy reading the responses from SOME DUers on the thread (some of my usual favorites like nothingshocksmeanymore, ultraist, SemiCharmedQuark and misunderestimator plus some new to me that I hope to run across again like ohio_liberal, noiretblu and heddi). I wouldn't have minded wading into some of that!

3. Maybe that article has a point.
Listening to Yellow Submarine really scarred me for life but I'm sure white people can relate to it :sarcasm:.

It's easy for a few there to use one article to justify reverse racism when one man is suppose to be a spokesperson for his race.

6. sorry...that's not exactly true
Edited on Mon May-16-05 02:56 PM by noiretblu
please tell us where the equivalent of the kkk is among people of color in america? it doesn't exist.
just one example, but i think people often confuse and blur the line between individual and instutional racism.
and in the case of instituional racism, there is no "rainbow coalition." as far individual racism, as has been repeated here ad :puke: anyone can hold racist attitudes.
