What is it about Obama that has some people hovering like vultures?

It disturbs me that everywhere on DU, there are people that are on the edge of their seats just DYING to see him fail. They can't wait. And you all saw what I am talking about in that thread where a good chunk of people were ready to pounce on him for "asking for Bush's autograph" If the thread had said "Clinton asks for Bush's autograph" you'd have 20 replies in a minute asking for proof and "where the hell did you find this???" and "I don't believe it!" and "I want some back up evidence!"

1. For some people, Obama has gotten too much media attention.

It's an American tradition to go after anyone that gets as much favorable attention as he did. You can also throw in the fact that DFA supported him. So that might explain why certain people relish going after him.

2. Remember when Jesse Jackson won the Michigan primary?

They jumped all over him, especially the press. Same with Obama. The powers that be won't let a minority rise to power without a fight unless he/she is a yes-man or a sellout.

Not just minorities either, anybody who's not "playing ball" or who speaks truth to power will get hamstrung by the press and by the DC insiders (on both sides of the aisle).

The termites are so entrenched in the house, however. I don't know how we can get them out without burning down the whole house and starting over.

Politics, money, and religion have unfortunately become too incestuous, and the current press is it's inbred offspring. I wish we could just get rid of money. It's the root of all evil, and getting rid of the concept of money and power would solve so much. I know, I know, how the hell are you gonna do this? I don't know...I'm like a confused kid looking at hopelessly tangled shoelaces and now I want to throw the whole shoe away. I don't know the solution, yet.

3. Yes, it's the money,

the lobbyists, the corporate sponsored trips to political conventions...all that. I'm with you. Wish we could get rid of lobbyists and political donations. Dreaming...

4. I am just finding that a lot of folks have almost become

militants in how each Democratic politician has to toe the DU party line. After the defeats that we have suffered, many are almost looking for betrayal.

We are entering into the Fast Food era of politics. One right moves, a la Barbara Boxer, can make you a hero and have many wanting you to run for President. One wrong move, and you can just go out that back door, and don't let it slam on your way out.

I don't like this quick vigilante type of judging of who's good and who's bad. It's too black and white and demands perfection and no compromise. Politics afterall to a great extent, is the art of compromise. That's why Senators don't make good presidential candidates.....too many compromises in their past, one way or another.

But I quite understand why it is happening, and so it is hard to Blame people for it. But I don't think that it is very fair.

On the one hand, we want leaders who do what they think is right...on the other, we want leaders who do what WE think is right. Problem is--not everyone agrees on what right is.
