Wow is the rhetoric really getting deep in GD-P
So if we don't support the Big O we are traitors, weak Democrats, no longer worth the time. Wow!!

Now I will be the first to admit I am angry and bitter at what the Repugs have done over the last 8 years--they have done everything in their power to destroy us and this country, but the hateful, nasty tone that has infiltrated this board makes me ill and is not the way to convert anyone.

Unfortunately the rhetoric is being ratchet up every day and a large portion of the Big O supporters are the ones pushing it. For a candidate who claims to be pushing Hope and Change, his followers are doing nothing but push Hate and Malice. Every day I feel myself moving further and further from any of the Presidential candidates. I am sick at heart for what has become of the Democrats. The nasty, ugly behavior that shows itself daily on DU is not the party I once believed in. It reminds me more of the Republicans and I'm firmly convinced that a large portion of the posters here are Repugs and this is just another in a long line of their plans for demolishing the Dems. Guess I should insert the :tinfoilhat: icon now. Don't know if others feel this way or not.

I'm finding for the first time in my life I'm having a voting crisis. I never thought I would find myself in this position. I have always voted Democratic, always believed in our candidates. I don't know if I will be able to vote for whoever becomes the candidate. The only ones I have any interest in now are the Dems running locally in North Carolina.

I think this latest post in GD-P that is right on the Home screen on DU has finally made me realize I might have reached the end of the road with the Democrats. If this is how we have to act and treat each other to get what we want then I am done with the party.

I will watch and wait until the Convention and make my decision after that...

1. All I know is that I'm tired.

I don't know if I brought some of it on myself by saying what I thought or whether I just should kept my mouth shut and gone along to get along. I hope Skinner and his family have a nice life. Sheridan looks like a sweet baby. I never said anything but I've followed what you've posted about Sheridan and your mother with concern.

Please try not to worry about your mother unless or until the doctor tells you that you should. Doctors run lots of tests that have negative (nothing found) results returned in an attempt to either find things in the early treatable stage or to rule them out.

If it makes you feel better about Sheridan, my Baby had a breast tumor removed a couple of years ago and has not had any ill effects or apparent recurrence. For her breed, she's getting pretty old and appears to have cataracts and arthritis now. She can't make it up the stairs that are steep any more and she spends a lot of her day sleeping now and I know I'm going to lose the best, sweetest, and smartest dog I've ever had much too soon. Then again, Godzilla just got excited, probably about the possum that lives under the house and Baby hobbled over to the window so that she could bark too. :)

Anyway, I think I'm taking a long break away from DU. It used to be fun and you could find information here that you wouldn't see in MSM. Unfortunately things have changed. You can't say anything like "wait a minute here" or suggest that a certain candidate might have made a mistake and it's just not worth the attacks any more. I don't particularly like Obama and have been unwise enough to say it earlier so I've been called a troll and a racist among other things. I think the posts where they get together and celebrate posters being tombstoned are really ugly. I think Hillary would be adequate but I don't like dynasties and I have to work to find any enthusiasm for her. Tonight and probably tomorrow's rumor is that Gore and Carter are going to interfere in the electoral process and make Hillary quit; another not bright idea from someone higher up. On the positive side, I have reason to hope my state will have a democratic governor after the upcoming November election. I know the slimeball that we currently have will be gone because he realized he was going to lose and isn't running so that's a positive. I don't know if I'm burned out or just depressed at the direction the democratic party is going. I do know I'm starting to become afraid that we could lose the White House and be stuck with 4 years of McCain.

Hang out here and post with us. I enjoy your posts and would miss you so much if you decide to leave. I'm sure others here feel the same. Many of us feel disillusioned and let down, but we need each other to get through this.

4. Thank you for the kind words about Mom and Sheridan
I am trying to keep positive on both fronts. Sheridan has done very well since his surgery and I'm pleased at how well his mouth looks. If you look in his mouth you can see what is left of the tumor, but it is no longer an issue for him which pleases me.

Like you I am very tired. I have tried since the beginning of this very loooonnnggg political season not to speak ill of anyone's choice in candidate. I defended John Edwards when I had to, but generally have stayed away from the nasty threads. Mostly that wasn't an issue until January.

After John suspended his campaign it seems like the wheels came off the nasty train. It was almost like he was the only thing keeping the ugliness at bay. When he left the Big O and HRC started fighting like kids on a playground and it has gotten mean, nasty, ugly and just plan rude and both of their supporter have just piled on. I am sick of all of it.

I've been researching my family history for years so I think I'm gonna go back to that and ignore what is going on here on DU.

I think I agree with you that the Dems may lose what should have been a slam dunk for the White House to McCain. A lot here don't want to take their heads out of the sand and admit that all the nasty behavior has affected both the Big O and HRC chances. Only time will tell.

2. I agree completely
My husband and I had a lengthy conversation this afternoon about our candidates and the future of the party. I am beyond disgusted and, after a lifelong commitment to the Democratic Party, am ready to change to "Independent". The "Democratic" candidates running (who don't really represent many of us) are pathetic representatives of the true, traditional Democratic Party. I cannot fathom voting for either of them because to do so would be to say I agree with the direction the party is going. Nothing could be further from the truth. I am from the Democratic wing of the Democratic Party, and will not settle for a DINO candidate. I want the real deal.

And, to further infuriate those on GD-P, I will not march in lock-step over the cliff of compliance to elect a quasi-Dem candidate. I may go down, but I'm gonna go down standing for something.

8. "I'm finding for the first time in my life I'm having a voting crisis." You're one of a large
crowd of us, and I suspect they will find this is a turning point for the party... maybe a large enough crowd that it may be the end for the party.

I was just talking with a local Dem activist today, and he is saying the same thing. He is pulling for O now, but he truthfully says there are many like me who just no longer care. He understands why we feel the way we feel, and see the many mistakes the party has made, and is clear that they are pushing out those of us on the left.

You're not alone. Either on DU, or nationally.
