good vibes needed
my 99 year old nana is in the hospital, they aren't exactly sure what's wrong with her, but think it's ileus, which from what i can gather online is a generic term for many types of bowel obstruction? anyways, good thoughts for her are appreciated...

she's in annapolis, i totally want to drive down and be there for her and i have to keep doing all of these stupid tax returns instead :grr:

8. So far no new news really...
there's a chance whatever it is might require surgery, but at her age i don't think they want to operate...seems like no one really knows for sure what's going on...

thanks for all the support :grouphug:

11. Sort of an update
She was apparently more stable today, and I guess her stomach has gone from being rigid to more soft, which is apparently good. In an effort to have her pass whatever the blockage is she's not allowed food or liquids, apparently even letting her have ice chips led to gagging :( Anyways, if we listen to my aunt things are looking better, my uncle is still sounding pretty pessimistic...I figure the truth is somewhere in the middle...

Thanks again for all the good vibes, I'll keep you updated :grouphug:

14. New update...
They decided to do surgery this morning, it turned out to be an adhesion causing the blockage...apparently the surgery itself went very quickly and smoothly and was really a best case scenario. Now the fear is recovery and being sure she doesn't get pneumonia etc. as a side effect of post-op recovery. My parents went down super early this morning to see her before surgery, and mom's latest report was that she's off the ventilator and really excited about being allowed to have some ice chips...

So, things are sounding pretty good, I don't want to get my hopes up too too high since she still has a lot to make it through, but I'm feeling much more hopeful!

Thanks again for everything guys :hi:

15. Terrific news
Thank goodness it was just an adhesion and nothing more serious. Hope your nana's recovery goes well. Be sure to tell her that a lot of us on DU are sending good wishes her way - and yours. Sometimes it helps to know that others care and are thinking about you.

And take good care of yourself, iris. You've been through a lot too.

28. that is great
My great Aunt, with whom I was very close, lived to 98 in good health and very active until the last two weeks. I know how frail people can be at that age. Hate to let them go, though...oh crap tearing up now.

30. We're hoping!
We'll throw her one hell of a party too :)

Milestones in my family are fun, When she turned 90, I was turning 20 and my dad was turning 60. We've always had big combined celebrations for the big ones together...

31. All The Best To You & NaNa! May She Make It To 100 & More!
My mother-in-law is 96, but unfortunately has Alzheimer's and no longer knows us. We have cared for her for over 9 years, but she always said she would live to be 100! I think she will, she takes no meds and other than the obvious is healthy!

Hi to all of you Edward's supporters too... I haven't posted for a very long time because so much of what is going on is not only a turn off, but bizarre to say the least. My heart is still with John & Elizabeth and know they're still working hard, but my heart isn't in this election anymore. I know it's a cop out but this one hurt more than any election I've ever known.
