This is off-topic, but I needed to vent here among friends
This is going to be a stressful week for me. Sheridan (my dog) is having mouth surgery. Since he's 12 yrs old it worries me a bit. The vet says he's healthy so it may not be as bad as I think. He has a tumor in his mouth that the vet says is probably benign, but once removed will be sent off to perform a histopathy on it.

The big worry for me though is my mom. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1999. Thankfully it was caught early, she had a Stage II tumor removed along with the lymph-nodes under one arm. After going through chemo and radiation, she spent 5 years taking the drug Temoxafin. She has been cancer free in all her tests since.

Well, she went to see her oncologist last week and he took some blood and found she had some elevated levels on a couple of things. So Tuesday she is going to have a bone scan done and something else(can't remember at the moment) and I am worried for her. I have to admit when she told me this my first thought was what has happened to Elizabeth Edwards. My fear is that the cancer has spread to her bones. I continue to hold out hope that it is not as bad as I'm making it out to be.

Please keep her and me in your thoughts this week. We can sure use the good vibes.

2. My thoughts & lots of good vibes are with you....
What a sweetheart Sheridan is -- hope the operation goes smoothly and the biopsy is negative. A number of years ago we went through a similar cancer scare with my father-in-law. Looking back, the hardest part was waiting & waiting for all the test results.

Take care...

3. Best wishes to you, your mom and your pooch!
Stress is a hazard to your own health, as I well know, so be sure to also take good care of yourself!

I don't know how to not worry... have never mastered that one, but try to do something nice for you, and maybe for you and your mom, both.

I'll be sending you good thoughts!

8. Oh honey...

Sheridan will be just fine, sounds like your vet is catching it early. Those mouth bumps can grow fast, and cause more problems later on. I know what this must be costing you, see if the doc won't throw in a little teeth cleaning too :)

I'm a fine one to talk, my little doxie just turned 16, she's been full of lumps and bumps for years, but I won't let the vet near them. I watch them carefully for problems and rapid growth, and of course, her quality of life. Nah, she's just got those old lady fatty tumors. I hope. But at 16 going on 17, I shudder to think of losing her. This brings me comfort: http://www.eoneill.com/texts/blemie/contents.htm

Now for Mom, again good news, my friend's had "hot spots" in her bones since she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1997. The cancer was cured, but the follow ups showed the hot spots, and she's been controlling them since 2001, and doing great! She did give me comfort when EE had her set back too. Think positive :D

Keep us updated, we love you :grouphug:

And in my thoughts and prayers. Is you Mother by you geographically? I know the Charlotte/Triangle region has some of best medical centers. Many people here in Wilmington take that drive, my Mom did last fall, she had a "funny" mammogram (Both her mother and sister had breast cancer) - but thankfully all is well.

Love ya and all my best.. O8) and to Sheridan too!

11. Thankfully my parents live here in Charlotte
on the same side of town. With gas prices rising, I don't drive as much as I use to. Mom has a wonderful oncologist and he has been great through everything.
