A FRIGHTENING TRUTH
Without hype or hyperbole, I'm finally conviced!

I had three majors while in College:

1. Politcal Science, taken as a Pre-law foundation;

2. History, a personal favorite;

3. Psychology

I lean to the latter to make this diagnosis of Obamites:

CULT, CULT, CULT

THEY FIT ALL THE TEXTBOOK DEFINITIONS.

It will be the subject of my next post.

1. Cult mentality is of course frightening.
We have seen all too often what comes of it. If not Obama himself, then somebody responsible should see this happening and expose it. It needs to be revealed and discussed openly in society.

2. I don't hold out "hope"
Obama knows exactly what he is doing; his preacher cadence and use of imagery is a conscious choice.

It is his supporters who can't recognize the robots they have become. I am nauseated going into GDP and watching them and their GOBAMA and Yes WE Can full tilt mode.

There is no discussion possible with them; that is a hallmark of a cult. Also, they are increasingly insular and attack everyone else. They put disquieting posters who attack them intelligently on ignore, becuase it is threatening to their fragile psyches and causes cognitive dissonance.

If the consequences werem't so frightening, it would be fascinating to study.

4. Yes, if it were some religious situation tucked away in some corner

of society it would be yet another fascinating study of a cult phenomenon. Unfortunately as you say, the consequences of this cult are truly frightening.

I know Obama is fully conscious of his actions. He is feeding his ego off of the energy. I know he won't stop it, how many cult leaders ever have? And then of course there is all the power of his potential presidency at stake. Why would he stop it?

What is discouraging is that cults have been thoroughly studied to the point that we should all be aware of the signs of the phenomenon, yet it appears that many "educated" people are on board here and sanctioning this event. SOMEBODY important needs to speak out loudly on this. Or better yet a group of concerned social leaders. But alas, if there was a discussion then those who speak out would be seen as negative, or possibly racist, which is a scary aspect of this cult, the use of racism as an enemy to the message of this cult.

3. I think you are right
I think you have analyzed this phenomenon accurately. Good work.

As you know from some of my posts, I am trying to understand what is driving people into this cult, and I think many if not most can be brought back. Fear is keeping them in line - that is why the "hope" and the rest of the bullshit doesn't ring true. It isn't hope, it is fear. When I post that, people say "I am not feeling fear. You are wrong." That is right. Some of the people saying that are the fear-mongers themselves - they are driving others with fear tactics. Others have joined the cult for the very purpose of trying to escape their fears, so they no longer feel fear (or are denying that they still do.)

We have something of a tag team going on, with you grabbing their lapels and shaking them, while I validate their emotional states. John, I think we underestimate just how traumatized and terrorized people are. The party leadership made a cynical and cruel move to crush the insurgency. So many people are torn now - they are being asked to give up their idealism and get in line, and they fear that if they don't we will have more of the Bush nightmare. May the Democratic party leadership rot in Hell for doing this to the best people, the most compassionate and caring, the most committed and dedicated.

Please keep in mind that the compassion and sensitivity that led so many people to support Edwards also makes them very vulnerable.
