JRE Mentioned in a New Poverty Book
JRE's ideas for pension reform are mentioned in a new book called Breadline USA. Check out Benny's World for more details.

1. I loved what John Edwards stood for - I gave $ to the Edwards campaign, when I had $
Why did he have to get involved with that horrific creature? Sex ruins plenty of things.

2. The most poignant part of the NYT article was...
... the part about them eating in a restaurant in Chapel Hill, and having people avoid them, avert their eyes and whisper.

I'll bet his home feels like a prison to him now.

Say what you will about everything else, this is killing him inside.

3. I know, I know. I just wish people controlled their sexuality better.
I guess people will always end up destroyed by their genitals.

6. She followed a "progressive" religion...
My wild guess is, she fancied herself his life coach and/or grief counselor. The perfect way to quickly gain a stranger's trust and break down normal reservations.
Their private sessions may have been more emotional counseling than sex. But enough sex to do damage.

7. After reading about the fact that she spends her life "recreating" herself -
from taking different names, to different pasts, to what have you, I consider her a sociopath. Both men and women need to be very careful whom they have sex with, when, what for, etc. Married people, particularly, need to wake up to the fact that they're married.

10. A sociopath can be very good at...
... making you forget you're married. They can launch such a charm offensive, that the target can forget everything they are and stand for. Like what happened to JRE.

I don't think Edwards was prepared to be the direct target of one. Till then, sociopaths were only something he encountered in court. He probably thought a smart lawyer like him, which such devotion to and from his family, was immune to them. NO ONE is immune to sociopaths-- no one.

I personally think he should marry Dr. Liane Leedom-- they would both have close encounters with sociopaths in mind...

12. I met a sociopath in college.
He was beautiful. Deep blue eyes, black hair, a Tom Cruise kind of looks, tanned, strong body. He was dating other women but asked me out. I knew all this. It was fun that he noticed me, however, right away I made my mind up that I wasn't going to fall for him. Just to hang out. We went out. He was very seductive and fun. Then, when we got back from the club, I went to his room. There, he wanted to have sex. I said no. He got pushy. I yelled no in a shriek so loud so as to be heard by anyone who was there. I was ready to bite his hand, his ear, whatever, off.

Soon, there was a knock on his bedroom door. He stared at me with intense hatred. It was the R.A. If I'd gone elsewhere with him, he'd probably have murdered me, but this was a DORM room, thank goodness.

From that point on, we'd see each other on campus, and he'd try to stare me down and I'd stare him down right back. I made damned sure I was with someone at night.

I think sociopaths are accustomed to being idolized.

If you don't idolize them after they've made all their moves on you, it makes them insane for life.

4. He won't be the first and he won't be the last one destroyed by sexuality, either
This keeps happening. Why can't human beings just make a pact with themselves to put their penis/vagina away while they're aiming for a greater goal? I think I could do it, but then I get very obsessed by lofty goals.

5. I think that's why he lied.
To protect his ideals... not just his personal ambitions.

He also probably (this is my hope) did indeed wake up to how much of a loose cannon she was, but by then it was too late... she was already pregnant.

She's not suitable as a mate for him under ANY circumstances. Her inability to keep things secret, her willingness to get pregnant and/or lie about being on birth control... those alone disqualify her, even if he had "done the right thing" and waited. At *best*, their relationship would have been like that of Paul McCartney and Heather Mills. And Paul DID "do the right thing".

8. She's a sociopath. And he didn't put priorities in place
He wanted to do good for the poor and the least among us, but he put his penis above that. And with a total psycho! Couldn't have have selected someone at least who had some sense of morality?

9. It can actually be very easy...
... to succumb to the clutches of a sociopath.

And sex and ego-appeal are their biggest weapons.

Read this. This was a PSYCHIATRIST who fell under the spell of one. She married him. Had a child with him. Opened a clinic with him-- her dream job. Then it all fell apart. By the time she had seen him for who he was, it was too late. Her career was ruined, he was in jail... and she was stuck with a child who may have inherited his sociopathic genes.

If it can happen to a psychiatrist, it can certainly happen to a trial lawyer.

And Edwards was ripe for the picking. Vulnerable? Check. Aspirational? Check. Successful? Check. Nurturing and generous? Check.
Committed? Yes, check.

It's not a statement on your lack of morals or smarts to be targeted by a sociopath. Rather, their targets tend to be people who possess these traits in abundance.

11. I know what you mean
It's like the Garridos. The female was under the male's spell. She helped her husband rape the little girl. Maybe little girls? They are investigating bones in their backyard.
