The Edwards supporters on DU have really got to band together and do something positive for our
candidate. The negative attacks by certain candidates supporters are coming fast and furious.Edwards seems to be a very big threat. We need to form a defense team.Any suggestions?

1. Thanks for posting this. I am wondering if we just support each other by NOT responding
to the anti-Edwards thread rats....and just ignore?

2. I wonder? But it almost seems if that has been tried and only ends up appearing
as though Edwards has no support or can't refute allegations.it is a sticky wicket. I think the answer might be to courteously point out misinformation and then remove yourself from the discussion because further participation just seems to make it worse.I also think we should alert on the personal attacks on posters.I have been continuously alerting not only on my own behalf but on behalf of others. No one should have to tolerate being called a liar or stupid as well as a host of other things. It may be the heat of the primary but it is against DU rules and demeaning. It ought to be enforced!

3. Thanks. Your approach sounds reasonable and doable. I need to go out for a long
walk as soon as I can.

My blood pressure is sky high.......and I am so disappointed in finding that among Democrats, Liberals and Progressives, there are just plain old mean, vicious and stupid people.

We as a political party, in terms of demographic makeup, we are no better than the GOP and maybe in some cases worse, because we eat our own.

4. I'm using my ignore feature now....
mostly people who post negative diaries about any candidate. If I don't see them, I can't comment. If I comment, it just kicks the negative threads.

My blood pressure is WAY down now :D

My suggestion is that you start and comment only in pro-candidate diaries and just be ready to debunk false information when those appear.

Also, spend some time on Daily Kos (I'm trying keep the EENR's updated in this forum for current information written by volunteer supporters, most who post in DU also!)

11. Tell me about it :))) I think I have over 17,000 posts since '04....
now that's an addiction!

Think of the oppo here as being pecked to death by ducks ! Which it is. When I see an attack diary, it gives me inspiration to put up a pro-Edwards diary !

Last time I had over 20 people on my ignore list, I started missing them, so I took them all off. Know what? Over half of those were tombstoned already :=0 !

I also noticed, when one of the top tier candidates has a bad week, another one gets DU-Bombed. It's politics, though I'm sure over 15,000 of my posts were in response to "Well, he voted for the 2002 IWR !!1!".

I use the DU lounge and Daily Kos when I need a break from here. The Lounge is crazy-fun, and clears my head. Daily Kos is member managed, bad diaries never make it to the rec list, and comments can be rec'd or troll rated by Trusted Users, which is earned by getting lots of rec'd comments ! It's a great incentive to post smart.

So, if someone simply posts, say, "Edwards sells snakeoil" without a supportive link, the TR's will fly, and the comment is hidden. However, Trusted Users will see the hidden comment.

It's fun, sort of like the DU Fun Run, only with more POWER

Another trick to DU, I ask myself "How would Elizabeth respond?" I always have to remember, I represent my candidate :D

10. Something interesting I have noticed is that when an anti-Edwards thread is posted
if it is pretty much ignored by Edwards supporters, it does not get very many R's.

I wonder if there are some posters who have more than one screen name?

just take a look at the lastest anti-Edwards thread, and you might see very few R's.

13. Some are so bad, why dignify it with a comment ?
We know it kicks the thread, why help them.

And believe me, I've met many DU Gore, Kuch and Obama supporters in person, at peace marches and at Yearly Kos......funny, have yet to meet a Hillary supporter, just came to my mind  Anyhow, they are fabulous, so don't let the avatar's and sig lines throw you.

14. Hi all
I finally renewed my star today and decided to pop in to say hi to my fellow Edwards supporters.

I've come close to lashing back at the anti-Edwards posts in GD and GDP, but I didn't know how to do it without stirring up the hornets' nest even more.

One thing I won't do is to post bad stuff about other Democratic candidates. I actually have nothing against any of them. It's just that John Edwards is my favorite, and that's because in my opinion, he's the best.

18. Hello everyone,
This is the first time I've been able to respond in this forum. Someone was nice enough to donate in my name. If I could find out who that was I'd love to thank them by donating in their name.

Any-hoo, I'm very new to this. Can anyone tell me, in a logical way, why there seems to be people here who exist just to attack Edwards?

This is a serious question. I came to this place like a lamb, I had no idea there would be this level of in-fighting among people that are presumed to share the same basic views. But, that's a lesson learned.

Am I wrong, or are we nicer people?

Nice to "meet" all of you.

19. Hi, asdjrocky
Welcome to the JE group from another group newcomer. :)

DUers are often very passionate in supporting their preferred candidates, but once the Democratic nominee is selected, we come together and behave like a big, happy family again...for the most part. Unlike most Repubs, we Dems aren't all like-thinkers, and as the saying goes, trying to get Democrats to come together in agreement on everything is like trying to herd cats.

I like that about us.

Anyway, nice to meet you too, asdjrocky, and I hope you'll enjoy DU.

20. And ya know,
I've always liked that about the Democratic party. Just surprised that so many of them sound like the repugs out there in the real world. I guess in the long run, it's better to have them with us than against us.
