Bought A New Microphone
Got the AT 4040 yesterday. I wanted something with enough tonal flexibility to use for vocals and to mike acoustic or the guitar amp at a slight distance. Good price on it and now i have another good mike. This one is intended strictly for home use. It ain't EVER leaving the house.

1. That's good mic
My buddy bought one for his home use too. From what I have heard, it records really well. Vocals sound great through them and acoustics sound crisp.

I think it's a great mic for the price.

2. I Negotiated Another $30 Off, Too!
Basically, i got it for about $15 out the door less than the price they had on the mike! So, i got that $15 plus the tax. And, it looks really cool on the stand.

4. Oh, I Have Those Too
But, i've got a few low end condenser mikes (in the $100 - $125 range), but i wanted something a little better. One of the mikes i already had is one of the Marshall Electronics mikes! It looks an awful lot like a Neumann, so it's clearly intended to be a low end knock-off. But, it's really a good mike. It's not as good as a Neumann, or a high end Blue, or a AKG 414, or something. But, for what i paid for it, it's really good. I would recommend to anyone who wants a good condenser mike but doesn't want to drop 3 or 4 bills on it, to give them a shot.

This new one is heftier feeling, and the diaphragm looks like it might be a pinch bigger. (Just guessing here, but 1&1/2" instead of 1&3/8ths?) This one has the standard gain dump, but also has a separate low-end rolloff. So, you can decrease signal strength without changing bass response, or the opposite.

I'm starting my instrumental guitar album in earnest so i needed one good mike to work with.

5. sweet!
I have a pair of AT4041's I use for acoustic guitar and occasionally drum overheads and an AT4033 that I use for vocals. I think you'll love your 4040.

6. Audio Technica makes good cheap condenser mics.
They gave us a batch of 4031s and 4051s when they first came out years back.. Compared quite favorably to Shoeps Collettes (cmc5u) which cost like 10x more. We also use a 4050 which is nice.
