Maybe you can "peg' my composing style?
Hi Folks,

People have a heck of a time warming up to my music even though I think it's all pretty cheerful and fun. As I have tried to get to the bottom of this, I think I may have part of the reason: they might like it all a lot better if they had something to compare it to.
:wtf:

Alas, I have always tried to make my tunes one-of-a-kind - which pleases me but may be a handicap for listeners ever understanding how fun it all is supposed to be.

I am trying to come up with a tag for what I do. Usually I say I compose something like: Light, Avant-Garde, Classical Jazz-Pop for small electric combo. Sometimes I say I do "Schwing Music".

Here's a link to my soundclick page:http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandid=435801

If you have time, give the songs there a sample (hi-fi if you can. The lo-fi is pretty damaging:thumbsdown:) and let me know what YOU might call my "style".

Thanks in advance!

P.S. Dick Dammit is the name I have written music under for about 5 years now.

4. Contemporary Progressive Pop...
I like that! It's shorter than mine but still says it.

I may grab this one. Thanks!

2. I Know What I Hate
And i don't hate this stuff. There are some good ideas throughout all three songs and the concept if fine.

If i had to "peg" you style it would be Lalo Schifrin.

5. Lately, I have half been wondering..........
If I belong in the line of people like Raymond Scott or ALec Wilder - those guys who did a kind of cartoony, chamber jazz back in the 30's and 40's.

It gives me a pain to think that way because I try to put some serious substance in with the fun - but still, Raymond Scott would be reference some people would get and I could get a listening.

3. I think you described it pretty well:
"Light, Avant-Garde, Classical Jazz-Pop for small electric combo". The first song has a sound/feel similar to what my jamming partner and I call "Coffee Music" when we play it. (Sort of a breeze-y Bossa-y thing). Anyway, you've a nice sound and the compositions are interesting/engaging.

6. Thank You.....
I like the term "Coffee Music", too.

Although, I think mine's kind of "Coffee with Pernod Music"!
