Looking for an effects workstation for guitar
Price range ideally is under 200-250.

I want something that will could act as multiple effects pedals, possibly an amp modeler.

Most importantly, I am looking for something like a boomerang, that can let me loop for maybe up to a minute so I can play chords, and then loop the progression back so I can improvise with it.

Does such a thing exist at that price range?

If so, where do I find it.

What are your reccomendations.

Thanks!

1. This is the first thing that came to mind...

I'm not sure uf the loop feature fits your requirement, and it is slightly more than your planned budget ($299), but I do know it's well worth it. Maybe you can find a used one on ebay within the $200 - $250 range.

3. and for an additional 100 bucks, :)
you can "upgrade" to the Line 6 Rifftracker software, which will take care of your quick multi-tracking desires.

I have a podxt and love it but probably won't bother with Rifftracker because I already use other audio recording and sequencing software.

6. :) Or you could grab the free demo of
Fl Studio to use for your recording needs.
This will only work if your soundcard can record "what you hear", but using the free demo version you could record your chords (unlimited tracks) into FL, then play them back while recording the output of FL and your new live playing into a second piece of recording software, even the recorder that comes with your pc.
Or do you have a mac?

7. I've got Linux. But I'm not too concerned about recording just yet
I am more concerned with my live sound.

13. I've owned just about everything out there. There is nothing close
to the POD XT Live floor effects unit. I got mine on Ebay for $370 and I have never seen or heard anything like it. Its bad ass and limitless and will change the world of music more than any other device. It's definently worth the extra $100.

9. How bout this? DigiTech JamMan Looper 299.00
Edited on Wed Nov-09-05 04:56 PM by greyl
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/JamMan/

If you're familiar with Lexicon's JamMan audio looping system introduced in 1994, you know that it has become quite a cult item and is still sought after around the world. Originally developed by Bob Sellon for Lexicon, after an idea originated by Les Paul using analog tape, the JamMan was discontinued in 1997. Now, in partnership with Digitech, the JamMan phrase sampler/looper is back in pedal form and better than ever. Designed for the performing vocalist and musician using CompactFlash memory and a dual footswitch interface, the Digitech JamMan Looper pedal is capable of creating seamless loops with virtually infnite overdub capability.

Input audio can be from instrument, microphone, or line-level audio sources. Up to 99 loops can be saved onto a CompactFlash™ card, which can be removed and transferred to a PC for archiving. An optional 3 button footswitch can be connected for remote loop access and reverse functions. Record your own loops and overdub them on the ?y, in the studio or onstage. And with up to two gigabytes of CompactFlash memory, you can record hours of loops and samples, instead of just minutes. Pop out the memory card and transfer your loops to and from your computer or DAW. Load up the JamMan® with a drum track, bass line, and vocal and solo harmonies...it becomes a band in a box. Slow down a song without changing pitch to master that tricky riff. With the DigiTech® JamMan® in your bag of tricks, the possibilities are literally endless.

Older Digitechs that I've used were a bit "tonemangling" in a bad way, but I've never heard this one. Its looping capabilities look pretty impressive, though.

edit: damn - it doesn't have effects though.
