Some things seem to good to be true.
My long-haired, guitar playing 14 year old son (he plays a black Schecter) spent the night at a friends house, it's Spring Break, and when he got home yesterday he walked in the door with one of these.

A Hamer Artist Studio.

Seems like his friend's dad, who now lives out of state, was or is a guitar player and gave it to his kid about 5 years ago and the kid has no interest in playing it. The kid cleared it with the mom, who probably has no interest in having this in the house.

The Hamer seems to be about 15 years old. The tuners were changed to Pings, and the bridge was changed to something that looks like a Badass w/rollers. Oh, and the front and the headstock were taken down to bare wood and some kind matte poly was put on and that looks like crap.

But I put a new set of Boomers on last night and fired it up. The action and everything was just fine.....and it rocks!! It's a little quiet for a guitar with humbuckers so I was going to check out the wiring, but it plays great.

Two new guitars in the house in two days. It's been a good week.

1. I have a Korean Hamer like this........................

It was recommended to me as a good gigging guitar, by a musician who worked for Hamer, if you don't want to worry about it. He suggested some changes and once I changed the cheap pots and jack it turned out to be a fun decent guitar and I love playing it. It has a great sound.

2. I really must comment on the great luck your son has
Somebody gave me a crappy acoustic once, but nobody ever gave me such a great guitar as that.

3. He's got better luck than me
I saw an old parlor guitar at my aunt's house the other day. Of course, it only had 3 strings which probably haven't been changed in close to 20 years, covered in dust and I think it's missing a fret or two. If I can remember correctly, I used to play with it when I was 4 or 5, but I didn't yet understand the concept of putting my fingers on the frets.

4.  it's a studio, the artist have a single f-hole
I sell these at the shop i work at. Assuming it's an american model, that's quite a nice guitar he has there. i'm not sure why anyone would be stupid enough to put ping (gah!) tuners, since american hamers come with shaller tuning machines standard.

they come with duncan pickups also. these guitars are very well made!
