It'll hurt having to go back to stopping at the non-partisan organic dairy (they're about 4 miles out of the way on the way home from Mr. Pcat's work) but at least we won't be participating in the Republican noise machine. I feel bad for them for their stupidity; they're a small business in the agricultural products sector. How can they be involved in their own suicide??

Sigh. I wish I could get through to them. It's not in their best interest to give money to those who would advocate their destruction.

1. Congratulations!!
Sometimes it is hard to give up convenience. And we don't have to do it all at once. But we'll feel better. And we'll start noticing ethical, blue companies.

ANd one by one we'll make our dollars count, even if our votes do not.

p.s., I don't know what this bouncy emoticon signifies, but I feel bouncy right now :D

2. Think of all the horomones and antibiotics you'll be avoiding
too. It's a win-win!

3. Actually, no. That's why we were using them.
They are a homone free, organic feed, no anti-biotics dairy. They're great about everything ... except the fact that they donated 60K to the Repukes.

Please don't assume.

4. Well, that just doesn't jive
why any company that's concerned about health or the environment would give 60k to repugs is just beyond me. I'm sorry about the assumption, but I'm sure I'm not the only one out there who would have such expectations.

5. This is a good example
of where the "Buy blue" movement falls short. I've been thinking a lot about this recently. Economic activism and reshaping the economy should have a SET of priorities, with buying blue not at the top.

1. Conserve, recycle, reuse, and be as self-sufficient as possible.
2. Buy local
3. Buy socially responsible
4. Buy from companies that are NOT entrenched special interests for either party in Washington
5. And THEN buy blue

The priorities are different for everyone and you have to decide what really matters to you (fair trade, your local economy, progressive politics, etc). And It can get complicated, as it did for pcat, but I think it will have a real impact and be well worth it!

6. There's something to say for simplicity and slogans also
Before people can learn a handful of principles, we have to start somewhere, to channel our anger to support our friends, not our enemies. But JD, I do like your analysis.

7. Sixty thousand dollars.....
that's a lot of money for a small dairy. Wonder if they were cutting corners....yuck. Virtue may turn out to have its own rewards. Good for you (double entendre) that you stopped drinking their milk.

8. They're cutting corners in customer support...
Got up Friday morning (rather late, in fact... *grin*) and found that even with the account supposedly closed and cancelled, we'd gotten another delivery. So we had another gallon and a half in addition to the half gal of whole that Mr. Pcat drinks and the half gal of skim that I drink that we'd bought from the other organic, local, dairy Thurs night on our way home from work. Somehow the account being closed never made it to the driver. I'm very glad it was very cold Thurs night and Friday morning.

Gah... I'm drowning in milk! (Tapioca pudding anyone? how about yogurt and ricotta?)

We're lucky in this area in that we have 4 thriving, locally owned and operated, organic dairies (as well as a goat dairy.) I can pick the one that's most responsible for not only environmental and ethical issues, but for political issues too. (we also have several meat markets that are the same way because our climate is such that the best use of land is not farming but ranching and herding. Water is at a premium, but grasses do beautifully and do far less erosion damage to the land than crops.)

Of course, the business office was closed for Xmas eve, so I'll call on Monday.

Sigh...
