1. Yay--Hepburn Day!
The great Katharine Hepburn! There are three things on this list I'm going to watch (again):

First, the one episode of two (don't know which one it is) of possibly the best interview of Hepburn, the extended, wide-ranging two-episode Dick Cavett from 1973, that I remember from the time, and that TCM (thank God for TCM!) has played both of, since. Part One, they were just getting used to each other, there were stagehands doing work at the very start, and the wary Hepburn took a little while to settle down and open up. Part Two had great, longer stories, and at one point Cavett asked about her political opinions, which she always hid. She said (paraph.), advising people "to be on the LIBERAL side," emphasis, to be "going forward," etc. Of course, Hepburn came from a very left-wing, radical, very educated family, with both parents feminists who supported birth control and programs for the poor, a family both screwy and funny, and, loving. The tragedy of their childhoods was the death of their brother, who loved to play that "fake hanging" stunt where the person is actually attached by the back and pretending to be hanging from the neck. On day, they all came home, (all those years ago...), and found the brother hanging in the closet. Hepburn always wondered, was it the trick, gone horribly wrong, or was it suicide?

Second, that great and witty classic, "Bringing Up Baby." Cary Grant is fabulous too, and a great cast.

Third, the wonderful "On Golden Pond," with Hepburn, Henry Fonda, and the wonderful Jane Fonda; what a cast, and some very wise writing. Also, (not to spoil the ending), a gentle hint at the end, of an incident, that tells you what is not, now, far away for these wonderful older people... Beautifully done.

I still miss Katharine Hepburn and her great, sharp attitude, and true, star-quality acting genius. Other great Hepburn movies, not shown today are, "Alice Adams," (TCM replayed that one recently), "Long Day's Journey Into Night," "The Lion in Winter," (great movie, with a young Anthony Hopkins, also already great), "Adam's Rib," etc. Katharine Hepburn!

2. hi, Hidden Stillness!
Welcome to the Classics Forum!

I didn't know about the tragic death of her brother, and her parents being so forward thinking. Thank you for sharing. :hi:
