I just saw Metropolis for the first time
I rented the newly restored (2003) version of the original Metropolis with a modern recording of the original soundtrack.

Wow! What a movie. Not just a classic movie, not just a really great silent movie. What a movie! My mouth was open for the entire 2 hours and 4 minutes. I was transfixed.

I just ordered a copy from Barnes and Noble. It'll be $30 but worth it. If you've been meaning to watch this movie, but haven't gotten around to it, get it now!

I gather previous versions have been pretty butchered, so this isn't a recommendation of anything but the newly restored version.

1. Is that the version that's supposed to have restored
all the previously missing portions?

I have a video of the Kino version of 2002, and it's excellent filmic quality, but it does have some
sections missing, with a banner telling what happens in the missing portions. I've heard that there
is now a newer version that has the missing pieces restored, and I'd love to see it. It's a
wonderful film, so I'll keep an eye out for the next screening on cable, and hope it's the newer
version, and record it.

2. I also have the Kino version...
I'll have to get my hands on this one if it is more complete. Thanks for the heads up.
