1. Films a Clef reminds me of...
...going to see Peter Bogdanovich's The Cat's Meow a few years back. The movie is a dramatization of a scandal involving William Randolph Hearst (Edward Herrmann) and Marion Davies (Kirsten Dunst). The friend who accompanied me to the movie said if Hearst had been around to see it, he would have had Bogdanovich killed. Citizen Kane it's not, but still very interesting.

2. I saw 'The Cat's Meow' and loved it!
the costumes were great, and Kirsten Dunst, Eddie Izzard (as Charlie Chaplin), and Jennifer Tilly (as Louella Parsons) were just wonderful! I loved the costumes, and the storyline was intriguing. I agree with your friend: Hearst would NOT have appreciated Bogdanovich's work. But I did!! :hi:
