No thumbprint, no money, bank tells armless man
Another good reason to hate Bank Of America

MIAMI (Reuters) – A bank in Florida refused to cash a check for an armless man because he could not provide a thumbprint.

"They looked at my prosthetic hands and the teller said, 'Well, obviously you can't give us a thumbprint'," Steve Valdez told CNN on Wednesday.

But he said the Bank of America Corp branch in downtown Tampa, Florida, still insisted on a thumbprint identification for him to cash a check drawn on his wife's account at the bank, even though he showed them two photo IDs.

Rest of story here

1. Have people really become so
afraid to think for themselves that it's comes to this? It's just as likely total laziness on the part of the BofA employee led to this because it's simply easier to "follow" company protocol but it's still pathetic.

It's not just customer service it's any interaction with other people, so few people are willing to get off their lazy asses to do something for someone else because it's going to take some energy and it's not in their job description.

Perhaps this BofA employee should find work at a DMV somewhere, they would love to have that ability to suck the life out of everyone they come in contact with.

My new wish is that this employee finds themselves stuck without gas in the middle of nowhere and everyone just drives on by. The way things are today they probably would.

2. I'd have offered them a big toe
and if they wouldn't accept it, I'd have made a stink in my stage voice, demanding to see the manager.

Drone employees know they're not paid to think and so they won't.

That's the problem.

3. Sounds like an ADA violation
Banking is a public accommodation/ service and must be provided to all.
I hope the EEOC or state human rights department goes after Bank of America. Absolutely ridiculous.

4. Seems like something they'd have a procedure for
people missing arms/hands are not exactly common, but not unheard of either. It seems like a fairly routine problem that they should have had to address before.

I imagine this will get cleared up pretty quickly and an apology will be issued.

8. They might as well be
Corporations don't want anyone who thinks or uses a little initiative. Just follow the rules, question nothing and NEVER bother your stuporvisor.

9. Not to ruin your circle-wanking glow....
but Todd Shnitt (One of the ultra-conservative AM radio hosts, who actually follows right after Rush Limbaugh on the radio station I listen to) spent almost a full hour expressing his disgust at this same event.

Kinda shows how we're not all that different doesn't it?

11. Did you listen to him as a public service? The difference is of course that while
right wingers may reveal a smidgen of humanity, they steadfastly OPPOSE actual laws that protect humanity. Most were AGAINST the ADA, as well as various equal rights legislation down thru the ages.
Just sayin'

13. Noticed 2 things immediately.
First, I don't listen to opinion radio and think it is news or anything other than fiction. You may or may not do this.

Second, when trying to make the loot of how similar we all are I don't start by calling the people I am communicating with "circle wankers." and that you most rudely did, somyou own that particular piece of assholery.

12. Memo to B of A: There are a LOT of disabled vets, as well as others (any of us really) who
may have to do things "differently." As true today as it was for Harold Russell (Best Years of our Lives) in World War Two, Korea, Vietnam...
Backward idiots were also plentiful in my father's day when they refused to let him attend the nearby school because he wrote with his foot - he had no arms - and they thought he would
"disrupt the other children" Real enlightened.
(Hope always needs renewing)
