Disability and Medicare - hospital care.

I am freaking out just now. My Minnesota State Disability medical care stops at the end of the month.

Medicare starts 8/1/09.

I'm scheduled for surgery 7/31/09 and in hospital for 4 days.

I cannot find an answer what might I might be responsible for --- from anyone. What a racket.

The state pays 100% on the day I am admitted. The next day, Medicare kicks in at 80%. And do I have to pay 20% from then on? Take me to the POOR HOUSE.

I have one. It costs $425.00 a month on top of the $95.00 I pay for Medicare. It fills in the holes.

Better hope you don't max out the Medicare allowance. You'll be stuck for that along with the 20% as well.

However, be glad. At least you do have some coverage.

4. Medicare HMO

My medicare HMO says I must pay $5 for doctor visit, $15 for a specialist, $0 for hospital stays.

Before I joined the HMO and just had medicare I had to pay $800 on a $90,000 hospital tab. You might not go into the poorhouse.

3. Check with your "Minnesota State Disability medical care" provider

In many states the State will pay for any cost NOT paid by Medicare if you are eligible for State Medical care in addition to Medicare (i.e. the 20% co-payment and the monthly fee). Check with the provider if Minnesota has such a program.

5. Just got rushed out of hospital

First hospital had no desire to tend to one on Medicare. Next I had to go into a nursing facility to wait for a bed in a hospital that agreed to help me. Of course nine days was it. Medicare and it's group of idiots said I can get all the care and therapy needed in nine perfect days. They could barely get me walking with help and crawl up my limited stairs in that amount of time. Welcome to the world of Care and Medi-Don't-Care!

just got out of the hospital myself. Was supposed to have all of these things - i.e. physical therapy from in-home health care.

I never got a call re: that. I can barely move.

I had 50 stitches in my gut. The surgeon called in no pain meds for me and wow, what an idiot.

You got it right - Medi-DON'T-Care and to think they want this for everyone! :wtf:

I have a costly supplemental plan on top of it and I just get the bare bones care - they fill in the holes.

Makes me quite sick and like you I can barely move.
