2. It'd be cool if Capcom didn't beat the concept into the ground
But then again that's their MO. They'll come up with a really kick ass game, sometimes even inventing a genre in the process, and then beat it into the ground until no one cares about it anymore. Street Fighter 2, I'm looking at you.

I would love to see a Soul Calibur-style game with Square characters. I think Ergheiz was a fabulous idea on paper but they just dropped the ball on that one in the execution. Square vs. Capcom done SC style would be so frelling awesome. Chaos!Vincent vs. DevilTrigger!Dante = sweet. Oh hell, we'd have to do Square vs. Capcom vs. Konami just so we can get the various Belmonts (and Tepes) involved. Alucard vs. Sephiroth...battle of the platinum-haired bishounen! My head would explode from all the pretty, but I'd die a very happy fangirl.

Square vs. Enix would be funny if done in a really goofy Smash Bros. style. Of course we'd need to have a slime as a playable character. And make really obscure references to stuff like Actraiser. :D

6. i thought an obscure enix reference would be paladin's quest :)
i dunno, i think i'd prefer it if the square v. enix mash up was something more along the lines of party v. party battles (a la FF v. DQ party fight) or a tactics party battle. that'd go over monstrously well. people have been dying for real party v. party battles outside of mmorpgs for quite a while now -- all you have to do is just see the comparing and gloating people do of their party's stats and combat styles, all talking about lv99 this, uberweapon that...

wait, no... that might not work. wasn't pso v3 something pretty similar in concept (without the 'card mechanic' obviously)? yeah. hmm... i still think it might work, just without the card idea. video card game is still the 'kitsch-hip' thing in japan, but is sooo over in america. sad, and i liked ether lords.

7. OMG Paladin's Quest
I thought I was the only person on Earth that ever played that game. For a while I started to think maybe I hallucinated it.

The problem with doing party vs. party battles is that there needs to be an entirely new character development/battle system just to level the playing field. Back when I was still a masochist and involved myself in FF fandumb, I used to see arguments all the time about which cast would win but as with everything in fandumb it was pretty damn pointless since the differing systems in each game make for vastly different power levels in the casts. Don't get me wrong, it could be done. I just think it would be really, really fun to do a Soul Caliber-esque fighting game. Especially if there was something like Weapon Master mode in SC2 where you can buy new outfits and weapons. Hell, it could be the best of both worlds and have party vs. party battles as an unlockable extra mode or something.

IIRC there is some kind of cutesy Puzzle Fighter-esque game coming out that mixes FF and DQ people. I don't know much about DQ (I'm not a fan, to put it diplomatically), so I can't speak to that but I did see a screenshot with a chibi Yuna. Of course it's probably one of those things that will never see the light of day outside of Japan. :(

8. maybe a Guardian Heroes free-for-all would be fun.
4 on 4 or 8 person royal rumble. a real-time, action based royal rumble would be fun, magic and swords flying everywhere. if you've ever played Guardian Heroes you'd already know the fun (that is a great game).

choosing a system if it was turn based might be hard... or you can just choose which system mode a la Capcop v SNK. just throw it all in and see what sinks and swims, playtest, release, listen to fans bitch and moan, release a fixed version or make a sequel. it'll be fast but painful, but hey, the people will play it. eventually play balance would be found... if the designers decide to really work with the customers on it.
