So I finally got a PS3
First game I bought was Assassin's Creed, because I remember the ads looked kind of cool. I got it used. It's decent, but a bit repetitive.

My favourite PS2 games were God of War and Kingdom Hearts. I also liked Prince of Persia (which Assassin's Creed kind of reminds me of).

I can't stand FPS on a console. So, what games are out there similar to the ones I like? At least until the new GoW and KH come out. :)

1. Assassin's Creed 2 is much better than the first...
The first Assassin's Creed was pretty repetitive, but the second one has a much better quest structure so it does not feel repetitive at all and the gameplay is greatly improved. A lot of people who did not like the first game love the second.

If you like God of War I would definitely check out Darksiders, the combat is very similar to God of War but the game world is similar to Zelda with a lot of exploration and puzzles to solve. Demon's Souls is another good action RPG. If you like third person action games Uncharted 2 is the best on the system, and a DUer was on the team that made it.

Other games to check out are Metal Gear Solid 4, Grand Theft Auto IV, Infamous and Little Big Planet.

2. Download the following Demos on your PS3 for free...
Hack 'n' Slash

Ninja Gaiden Sigma (an old game, but can be found for $20 new, or much cheaper used)

Ninja Gaiden sigma 2

Devil May Cry 4

Bayoneta

RPG

Valkyria Chronicles (different, but really fun)

Eternal Sonata (i could not get into this game, but many people loved it)

Oblivion (no demo, but worth renting to check out)

Sacred 2 (no demo, but worth renting to check out)

Fallout 3 (I know you hate FPS on consoles, but my wife hates all FPS yet loves this game, rent it and check it out, if you buy it, make sure to buy the Game of the Year edition)
-----------------

also check out...

Pixel Junk Monsters (the demo is easy, but the game becomes very challenging, the price was $10 when it first came out and may be cheaper now)

Savage Moon (there may not be a demo for this, but the game play is similar to Pixel Junk Monsters)

Dead Space (the demo shows off the action and does not touch the RPG elements (your guns and suits have stats which can be raised), remember to use your slow (Stasis) ability on the bad guys)

Katamari Forever (people either love or hate this game)

3. I've got Katamari Damacy
for the PS2. I love it, but it had a super steep curve. I was going along playing fine, then suddenly it was impossible to complete the mission. Ack!

I'll check those demos out. Thanks.

Here are two consecutive sections from early in the game. Please watch at least all of the first video- it's worth it.

6. cool
I thought the combat style looked familiar, then saw that it was designed by the same guy who did the Devil May Cry games. I'll definitely be getting this one, too.

8. Sacred 2
I've been shying away from RPGs, because I hate turn-based combat. I prefer combat in the Kingdom Hearts style. How is combat handled?
