Videogame Cliches (and, I believe, this forum's first copycat post)

I'll start:

The omni-present shotgun in FPS's. I mean, man has bases on freakin' MARS in Doom 3, and the dude is running around with a SHOTGUN?!?! And, don't even get me started on why in the world you would need a CHAINSAW on Mars!

And a second FPS cliche: The "spawn sound" and comlete inability of any character in an FPS beside you to move completely silently. If I can tiptoe without making a sound through an army base carrying a chainsaw, shotgun, chaingun, BFG, plasma rifle, machine gun, rocket launcher, and flashlight, why can't a naked demon do the same?

1. actually if you read the PDA's
the chainsaws were a mixup, the shipment was supposed to be jackhammers, hey, atleast they tried to explain why in the hell chainsaws would be lieing around on mars

2. Here's a few
Reenacting the Battle Of Hoth in Star Wars games

ANY character in ANY game who's ever said "That's Gotta Hurt!"

Any game that has a "babysitting" mission,i.e. hordes of bad guys trying to attack a slow defenseless target from all directions and said target making stupid decisions while you're trying to kill all the baddies off

7. Hoth
It's the only large-scale ground battle in the OT. It's the only moment where the magnitude of the conflict is realized on a relatable, human scale.

That's what makes it perfect material for videogames.

5. Actually, I don't think it matters that the women are elves ...
All women in video games are either hot or lame stereotypes of not hot women.

9. The bad guys are always more powerful than their creations.
If you're going to make a killer robot or a mindless 40 foot tall minion made from the flesh of your victims that are completely under your control then why don't you make them way way way more powerful?

10. Oh so many...
We can't forget the lazy computer programmers who, instead of working with the A.I., decide to make difficulty levels harder by letting the A.I. just outright cheat.

And games where you drive, you're on a time limit, and oh, look A FUCKING BUS KEEPS GETTING IN MY WAY, etc...

11. A. I. players doing things you can't...
Like ducking or rolling out of the way of your shots, yet players can't do those things.

12. How about the absolute inability to climb on top of a crate?
Especially since most of them in games appear to be only about 6 feet tall? (Tomb Raider, at least, had no such foolish restriction.)

18. Stupid NPC Syndrome
Where your NPC's do one of the following:

- Get stuck behind walls and doors, especially on timed levels
- Go into Random Berzerker Mode with no health left, attacking whoever is in sight
- The guy with the minigun mowing down half your party along with the enemy because he can't aim worth shit
- Falling off walkways and cliffs because they are trying to follow you weird

19. Ultimate list of cliches
surprised no one else had posted this, came to myself, and found my donation had expired and i wasn't allowed to post in groups! Now that that's sorted out...

hope you have some free time, it's a huge list, and addictive to read

"All legends are 100% accurate. All rumors are entirely factual. All prophecies will come true, and not just someday but almost immediately."
"Defeating a dungeon's boss creature will frequently cause the dungeon to collapse, which is nonsensical but does make for thrilling escape scenes."
"No switch is ever in the right position."
