EA Scores 15 Year Deal With ESPN, lets loose giant "muwahaha"
http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20050117-4529.html

<SNIP>
In an update to our earlier version of this story, we have now learned that EA has signed a an exclusive deal with ESPN for ESPN-branded games. You may recall that EA stunned gamers last month when they locked up the rights to NFL-based games for five years, granting it exclusive rights to use NFL players, teams, and stadiums in its games. Now EA has scored another such deal that will grant the company a 15-year licenses to develop games based on ESPN's holdings. This comes as a serious blow to Sega Sammy Holdings and Take-Two Interactive Software, with whom ESPN previously dealt.

God-damn it! I cannot stand EA.

1. hmm, wow, that's a major coup
too bad i can't stand most sports games (especially mediocre, redundant EA ones), otherwise i'd be more up in arms about this. it's bad for the market, bad for creativity, bad for consumers.

just buy take-two and sega sammy sports games and tell others to do so? but there's still the overwhelming tide of 'casual gamers' out there who want only the cream of the crap, so all is pretty much lost.

best of luck, sports fans?

3. I Agree, The Problem
is that SEGA has made the best NFL football (ESPN branded BTW) game since the days of the Dreamcast. Not anymore though.

2. They're the goddamn Borg.
Seriously. There's a reason you almost never see their CEO in public. It's the Borg Queen.

Thank god I hate sports games. And thank god the only RPG-related thing they've done is make a really shitty Final Fantasy X knockoff with LotR seasoning (I got really, really worried a few years ago when they had that NA distribution thing going with Square).

I feel your pain though, dude. I hate this company so badly I don't even buy Sims stuff new. I don't want them to have my money.

6. I like some of them, but I like diversity and competition better

If they have cornered the market, they can put out crap without retribution.

7. Someone else cornered MLB
Forget the name, but they had some hand in the GTA series, so EA hasn't snagged up everything yet.

8. i have NCAA football 05, and NFL 04 and 05
i play them CONSTANTLY, but there is really no point in getting a new edition each year, unless you're obsessed with getting new players names
