Italian scientist reproduces Shroud of Turin
http://www.comcast.net/articles/news-science/20091005/SCIENCE-US-ITALY-SHROUD/

I don't understand why there's any controversy about this. I mean, the Shroud is pretty much the most thoroughly debunked hoax (deliberate or otherwise) in the history of Christendom.

But I'll bet a large heap of money that this will do nothing to dissuade the believers; in fact, I'm confident that it will only strengthen their belief in this "relic."

1. Some folks made the mistake of tying their faith to a physical object.
Esp. one that could be proven not to be authentic. Thus they CANNOT allow anyone to do so, and will deny any and all evidence indicating such.

2. Technically speaking...
Just because something can be reproduced by humans doesn't mean the original wasn't produced miraculously...

However, if one chooses to believe the miraculous explanation over the mundane, then they might as well toss Occam's Razor aside and choose to believe the Earth is buoyed through the stars on the backs of giant elephants standing atop the shell of an even more gigantic tortoise. It makes as much sense.

3. I suspect that God created this "scientist" specifically to test the faith of His believers

4. Right
Radio-carbon dating, evolution, the speed of light, scientists and Ding Dongs... it's all a sophisticated test of faith. :D

8. Which brings to mind an old Bill Hicks bit on creationists
Creationist: I believe God put dinosaur fossils in the earth to test our faith!

Hicks: Huh, I'm kinda thinking he put YOU here to test MY faith.

7. The argument that Shroud of Turin believes have claimed for years...
is that nobody knew how the work was made, therefore magic Jesus Rays were responsible.

5. Believers will shrug it off even if they bother to read about it
One thing you can always count on with believers, they'll simply disregard any facts that don't fit.

6.  An idea just hit me.
Wouldn't a Shroud of Turin costume be fun for Halloween? All it would take would be an old sheet and some creativity. :-D
