"The Mentalist" Tops Nielsen Ratings,

1. I know, it's stunning

I love that there's a main character, a heart-throb hunk, who's an atheist skeptic. And Eli Stone is cancelled yip-i-dee-doo.

3. I've seen a few episodes.

It is typical TV fare with the twist that it mocks a lot of woo woo. The acting isn't too bad, and the dialog is about as good as you would expect (it's TV). But the premise is that a "reformed" psychic can lead the cops around and solve crimes. That's TV. In real life crime solving is done by professionals.

It falls into that huge genre of "renegade cop" movies where they stretch the rules to get the bad guys. It is mildly entertaining, but not worth going out of your way for unless you like the hunky star of the show.

Disclaimer: I generally don't like TV. It reaches out to the least common denominator.

I'm also not a fan of network TV. From your description, I think I'll just be glad that the show exists and then I'll let other people actually watch it.
