I AM MORE ____ THAN YOU WILL EVER BE
You know the posters:

I am more homeless than you
I am more poor than you
I am more sick than you
I am more ____ than you

If you were homeless, it was a long time ago, things are different, and your experience is not relevant to anything that has, is, or will happen with regards to people that are homeless.

If you were poor, it was a long time ago, things are different, and your experience is not relevant to anything that has, is, or will happen with regards to people that are poor.

If you were sick, it was a long time ago, things are different, and your experience is not relevant to anything that has, is, or will happen with regards to people that are sick.

---
I hate these posters. Like they have the monopoly on thoughts and suggestions. Like anyone who ISN'T THEM has no idea about anything related to homelessness, being poor, class issues, economic issues, health issues....

Sorry. Just had to get it out.

1. I think I know exactly who you are talking about...
without having even read any potential thread in question. God that's sad.

But yeah, I agree with you - those posters grate on me.

3. I agree
I wonder if the library started cracking down on people camping out in the library and posting from the public computers at 3am :eyes: At any rate, I thought of this because someone I know in real life (IRL for you intertube junkies) has never been poor, never been homeless, never been on drugs, never been without insurance BUT SHE KNOWS, man, SHE KNOWS just what it's like because she watches Dateline and Dr Phil!!11!!

the other night she was "educating" me about drug addiction, and how this one time she had a headache for 3 days "I swear to GOD I was addicted to Tylenol. It was the only thing that could even begin to cut the pain, therefore, ergo, henceforth, I know just what it is like to be a polysubstance abuser without family or home"

I work at a level-1 trauma, county hospital. 20% of our patients are trauma, burns, car wrecks...really sick people. The other 80% are homeless, drug addicted, prostitutes, inmates, poor, underinsured, uninsured, underserviced, immigrants, etc.

I work on the heart floor so anyone who's cracked or coked out and has heart rate of 200 will come to my unit. End-stage AIDS. No veins in their arms because they have been blown to bits from 20 years of IV drug use. 8i0% of the hospital patients are the populations listed above, but MY Patient population, in this particular part of the hospital comes close to 98% of the above mentioned patient populations. I *KNOW* drug addiction personally, through friends and family, and because I deal with it clinically every. fucking. night.

And yet this bimbo who's never made less than $40k in her life, who has never had a vice other than stuffing her face too often and too much is going to tell *ME* what drug addiction is like, and what addicts are all about, and why they do drugs and why they don't get treatment? She's going to tell ME what it's like to be poor and not have insurance? How people shouldn't clog the ER with ear infections?

bitch please.

She's so oblivious to the reality of the situation, yet at the same time volunteers herself as a fake PART of that situation. She was without insurance for 2 weeks when she switched jobs, therefore, she's been uninsured and SHE's never gone to the ER for an ear infection. Snuff.

She is the poorest person, the most homeless person, the most sick person in the world that has never been poor, homeless, or had a major illness.

People like that piss me off. /rant

4. A song for her...
I wish I was a Negro,
With lots of Negro soul,
So I could stay true to my ethnic roots
And still play rock 'n' roll

If I was a funky Negro
Eatin' soul food barbeques,
I wouldn't have to sing
The middle-class liberal well-intentioned blues

I wish I was an Indian,
A grown-up Sioux papoose
So when I get drunk on a beer and a half
I'd have a good excuse

I'd be a noble savage,
Wouldn't ever wear no shoes
And I wouldn't have to sing
The middle-class liberal well-intentioned blues

I wish I was a wetback
On strike in a lettuce patch,
Or a slant-eyed peasant with the Viet Cong
Stashed underneath my thatch

I only ever cross a picket line,
To pay my union dues
To keep on singing.
The middle-class liberal well-intentioned blues

But I am not a Negro (c'mon!)
Not a red man nor a Mex (join me kids!)
I'm a member of the oppressing color
Language, age, and sex

I sympathize with the Arab cause
I feel for the put-upon Jews
And I keep singing
The middle-class liberal
Humanitarian
Meaningful dialogue
We are all responsible
Well-intentioned blues...

Found in an old National Lampoon album.

8. I loved national lampoon
My mom didn't keep playboy or penthouse hidden under the bed--she kept NL under the bed. As a child I would sneak and read. And now you all know one of the many reasons I am the sane and normal and unsarcastic person I am today. Taa-dah

10. Oh, I loved it too. Do you remember this story?
You probably recall that at one point, NatLamp got "tame." For one thing, they stopped running the hilarious Son O' God! comics.

As I remember the story, that happened because a bunch of Christophiles in New England found an 18th-century law against blasphemy still on the books. They dug it out and threatened NatLamp with criminal charges if they didn't tone down the sacrilege. I guess it was one of those things where the magazine could have fought it, but it would have been a long and expensive process.

Wimps. They should have just slightly modified one of their classic covers...

Buy this magazine or we crucify this Messiah...
