1. Very nice.
I love garden porn.
You have a beautiful garden.

Two weeks in late Spring makes a HUGE difference.

2. WOW!
Big difference 2 weeks makes! My corn isn't growing very fast. I was wondering if maybe the square foot setup just wasn't giving it enough root space. I planted a third bed without the box and no landscape cloth blocking the bottom, so I will see if that corn grows better.

3. This is my first garden
As a result it's my first corn. I started with the boxes, and then things just sort of spilled out from there. Part of it might be where I live, here in the San Joaquin, it gets pretty hot. I only wish my radishes weren't the size of Pearle onions.

6. Square foot corn experience
I have grown corn for 2 years using 2 different methods. The first year, in a 16 X 3 foot bed I planted corn in mounds with beans and squash (known as the 3 sisters in Native American cultures). I had great success with all three crops but the spacing was such that my corn yield was small.

Last year, I grew corn in two "L" shaped beds than equaled 48 sq ft. I made 3 "L" shaped rows and planted the corn approximately 6 inches apart. Out of those two beds I harvested 101 ears of corn.

This year I haven't planted my corn or okra yet. Death in the family, RAIN, work, RAIN, other obligations, RAIN, etc., have halted any planting for the last month. If I get the corn and okra in the ground this next weekend I might be able to have a crop before the first frost.

7. That's heckuva lotta corn!
I planted one row of 3 each of 2 varieties of corn in the non-square foot bed. I am eager to see if it catches up and/or surpasses the square foot beds. I am not a fan of squash, but I read with great interest about the 3 sisters method, so I planted the beans right by the corn. I also planted pease even though it is too hot here, just hoping I'll get a reduced yield.

My first garden has been a learning experience. I'm more likely to remember to do or not do things based on trial and error than reading about them. I got so confused by what to plan when that I ended up planting everything at once. Now by seeing and experienceing what is and is not growing well, it will be burned into my memory!LOL

8. I think that's what I'm learning about my red leaf lettuce and
my radishes. Think I got them into the ground too late.

5. So that's what that's called.
The humming birds and the bees love it, I know that. Thanks for the info.

9. wow!
Two weeks--you could actually stand there and watch that garden grow!

Question: I see some wire wrapped around the tomatoes in the raised bed. Is that to support, keep critters out, or what?

10. Just string.
With some stakes pounded in the corners. I had to do something, even with them in cages, they've gone insane and were falling out of the boxes. I just wrap the string around the poles to keep the plants inside. I'm really happy with it so far, and the plants are doing great.
