Spring garden tour (pic heavy)
Welcome to my messy spring garden. I haven't had time to tidy up completely.

Walking up the drive looking North - Must camoufluage that propane tank and generator.

Flower garden - Gotta get the rocks weeded soon!

Aerial view of main vegetable garden

Tomato, asparagus and basil bed

Potato barrels

Potato plants emerge

Wood Nymph

TiKi Gods need new "hair"

View of the Buddha Path - Hey, when did that gargoyle sneak in there?

The cat welcomes all birds to the bath

Now, sit a spell and enjoy the view from the deck

1. I like how the L-shaped beds fit together.
Bet it looks pretty full of summer plants.

Does the fence around the garden work for keeping out small critters, or is it for deer?

How are you liking the greenhouse? Is it heated? How does it work for seed starting in the cooler months?

3. Answers
This year I am planting cucumbers, beans, peas, summer and winter squash. Instead of an upright trellis, I position a section of cattle fencing in the bed and lean it on the outside fence at an angle of about 45 degrees. The veggies hang through and it makes easy picking. The winter squash I tie hose around to support.

Fence is for deer deterance but needs to be 7 foot tall to really work. They jumped it last year and ate my beans. I plan to increase the height by attaching fencing to the top somehow. The lower half has plastic fencing attached to keep out squirrels etc. The squirrels chewed a hole and come in and out at will.

The greenhouse I built last fall. It is heated by 2 small heaters I run at 750 watts each on really cold nights. It gets almost 6 hours of sun a day so you would be surprised how warm it gets. I just installed the screens on the door and in the back and have a small fan running all the time. I started my seedlings in the house and moved them to the greenhouse when they were 2-3 inches tall. They flourished once I moved them. My tropical plants survived quite well. I'm going to grow micro-greens in the greenhouse this summer to sale at our farmers market.

2. I love the cat statue!
And the potato barrels are intriguing. I'll have to read up on them.

5. I love it all!
It looks just great! Maybe one day, we can get together and see each other's gardens in person!

We picked up two of those barrels this weekend to catch rainwater for the garden. Too bad we didn't have them two weeks ago! :eyes:
