Announcing my Journal about Gardening and Cooking
This journal will be a day-to-day log about the culinary activities of an organic gardener and a very talented and experienced gourmand (my partner). It will feature what we are doing in the garden and the kitchen.

You might ask yourself how a Democratic gardener and chef are any different than an Independent or Republican gardener and chef.

The answer is that a Democratic gardener and chef are more likely to practice organic gardening and to prepare foods in ways that are friendly to the environment. I hope you will check this journal out for gardening and cooking ideas.

Cher

4. Hi NJCher. In which county is your garden?
I have in-laws who garden up in the Del Water Gap area and their tomatoes are awesome. They're also close to the NY state onion fields --yum!

6. I'm in Essex County
I love the Del Water Gap area. And those NY state onion fields--I used to summer up that way and boy is that soil to die for!

5. Very cool

here is a link I found that you may enjoy.

For those who want to grow herbs for possible medicine, it is an invaluable site, but tends to feature Easern US plants.

7. Great Idea!
I'm so interested in your hanging tomatoes. I bought this crazy red thing through one of the catalogs -- have you seen them? It's basically a red plastic collar, and it is supposed to send some magic red wavelength or some such nonsense, LOL, but what I like about it is it's helping me keep the moisture in the root zone of the plants and helping with the weeding! Also seems to lock out the slugs. So I have 6 plants, 3 with the wacky gadgets and 3 not, so we shall see if the tomatoes are any better.
