Well THAT was a bizarre dream. I...was getting engaged.

In a dream. I have never, in my life, wanted to be married. I've also never, in my life, dreamed that anyone proposed to me.

It was...nice? Apparently, it was an established relationship. We had dinner somewhere, and then afterward he wanted to walk down a street that was nowhere near the car, and while we were doing that, he reached into some bushes and pulled out a gigantic pink engagement ring box. In the dream, all I could think was, "Oh, of course, he's going to ask me to marry him." I was so amused that he'd manage to arrange the entire evening to keep me from guessing the end that I was going to say yes (the ability to keep a secret impresses me). But I woke up before I actually got to see the ring, or accept.

Interpretations welcome, especially because this is the last place my brain has been on a waking level lately.

Yes, that's why it's there, LOL. To form cross purposes with our conscious, or so it seems.

My interp is that part of you is now saying it's time for a long-term, committed relationship.

In fact, the way your dream relates how it perceives such a relationship is quite lovely. Why wouldn't anyone want this?

The unconscious is teasing the conscious with your observation about how you admire keeping secrets.

Now, it could be interpreted on a sexual level, too, which I need not elaborate on because it's quite obvious.
