I PM-ed Skinner about a chatroom

a week ago and still have not heard back. So, my guess is "not likely".

If y'all want to chat, we can set something up at Tinychat or join Spirit Forums where I've been spending more of my time of late.

1. personally, I don't like chat rooms

It seems in every forum I've been in where they set up a chat room, the forum fell apart. The chat room became a clique, those who were on a different time schedule were left behind.

Forums allow conversations to happen on everybody's schedule, and the archives allow us to look up useful links and info well after the fact.

2. I posted this because we discussed this in here a few weeks back.

And the concensus was that we should at least ask about such a thing. Most seemed to want one, whether attached to the board or something we all just agree to have once a week or whenever someone makes a post wanting to chat. With one like Tinychat, that's easy enough to do and you don't have to use an IM program, either.

Yes, a forum is best when you have lots of information to share. However, it's not normally very spontaneous and you certainly can't do a live attunement through one, like you can with chat. A chatroom is great for healing sessions, classes and whatever else we wanted to do in a group and live session. Forums aren't too good for that. I would guess, too, that if cliques formed on those forums you mention that they were there to begin with and just gravitated to the chatrooms, too.

5. I remember when you posted it

I didn't reply at the time because I didn't want to affect the outcome, if that was what most people wanted. I don't really remember discussions of why or discussions of meeting times.

I only remember half a dozen or so replies, and then the thread disappeared. So unless a lot of people pm'd you, I'm not sure that there is a consensus. So that's why I'm offering my experience of chatrooms in other forums. I simply have found that they dilute the forum. Your mileage may vary, as may others.

On the other hand, I already belong to spirit forums, but I haven't been spending much time over there because it didn't seem very active when I was over there...:shrug:

so it's a consensus with those posters, not the whole forum.

I have not seen chatrooms destroy forums. At least with spiritual forums, they seem to act as a supplement as well as just a place to "chat". I met my first wife online in one such spiritual chatroom and the marriage lasted a little over seven and a half years. Sure, I've seen plenty of strife, but I don't think there's been that much with this group that I have witnessed in the forum so far.

By the way, Spirit Forums is quite active. You might give them another try and look around :)
They also don't use their chatrooms in a structured manner like say, Inspired of Spirit where they do classes, attunements and other cool stuff with their chat :)

7. why not just go ahead and set up a chat

for some purpose or goal you have in mind, such as a healing hour, on a specified day and time. Maybe include backup days and times in case people who want to participate can't make the 1st choice time.

Plant to hold it in spirit forums and announce it here, so that people who want to participate can join if they don't already belong (as I recall a number of people here have mentioned they already do belong) and can give feedback re: scheduling. And then just do it and see how it goes. :)

Sorry for taking a while to reply. I was a bit loopy (or is that Lupe?) last night and didn't want to PUIP (post under the influence of percocet)

I'm not as familiar with Spirit Forums for how they do topic-specific chats or sessions, so I'll have to PM the admins there about that. They may have sessions already available for certain days. I'll let y'all know what I find out there. For here, I think just trying out Tinychat is good enough. We'll figure it out from there :)
