Turning over the rock
I am completely amazed at what's going on in our country these days. In just a couple of short years, and most intensely in the past eight months, we have turned over the rock and revealed our country's dark underbelly. And what we've found is a seething mass of slimy things.

First we uncovered the racism against African Americans as Americans scrutinized and criticized Obama in the runup to the election. Such an ugly thing, and it's dismaying to acknowledge it never went away entirely, even decades after the civil rights movement--it just got stuffed under the rock.

Then we ended up butting heads over and over and over again about equal rights for gay people. It's out from under the rock, and it ain't going back in the darkness, even if we haven't overcome the issue yet.

And now Sotomayor, with privileged, fat, jowly white men crying "racism!" Okay, on that one, I've gotta say...
:wtf:

The Sotomayor nomination is a double "goody" (heavy sarcasm), simultaneously revealing racism against Latinos AND against women.

How very, very ugly. And yet how very, very necessary. Just like in an individual's therapy sessions, it's essential to get all the ugly secrets out in the open and take a good hard look at them in the light of day. Only then can we get rid of them, let them shrivel up in the hot sun and blow away on the wind like the fragile husk of a long-dead insect.

So yeah, I say let's turn over that rock. And once these nasty mini-monsters are gone, let's rake up the area and plant some flowers. Whaddya say? :hi:

1. Very good analogy, MG.
I've been dismayed by the entire Sotomayor discussion but especially the woman part. I can't believe what the right is saying about her menstrual cycle. Are we still in the 50s?!! :wow:

I really hope some of these comments bite them on the butt in future elections.

I also agree that all of this is really required.

This entire post is spot-on.

her cycles? She is in my age group and may not even have them!

They have also come unglued where Nancy Pelosi is concerned. :eyes:
I have been appalled at that *discussion*.

Good part is, we may never have to face another Republican administration :D

Isn't he a convicted felon?
It's amazing that the Republicans listen to this idiot.

2. Absolutely, MorningGlow.
:hi: I see it hopefully as one the remaining vestiges of trying to scare white people. Palin tried it and failed. Even Hillary Clinton tried it and failed. It is absolutely disgusting and necessary for the country to make a stand, personal stands to conquer fear and domination by the few who benefit from separation. I'm so glad it's out in the open and the crazies are dispensing with buzz words.

Well said, this is a Double Goody!

3. The truth about 9/11 is coming
The only reason it isn't out yet is that we, as a people, can't yet handle hearing about it. Light workers are preparing for this now.

Did you see this in a vision?
BTW, what is the truth of 9/11? Like lots of people, I have theories but don't know.

16. I have theories too.
Do you ever visit "the dungeon"? Our own 9-11 forum? There was a gentleman on a California station last week, Gage (IIRC) was his last name, and he talked basically about Building 7 and its implosion. The hosts treated him respectfully and, I think, the female even had a small breakthrough.

7. Beyond our not being able to handle it, it's going to implicate many others,
including some of our Democratic leaders as well. Also, this whole cover up about the torture we have done reaches back into other administrations, not only Bush's. Cheney, Rumsfeld and the Bush administration just pushed it beyond the limits that it couldn't be hidden anymore as it had been done in the past. The reason impeachment was off the table, when we gained the House was because all of this would have been revealed and many of our Democratic leaders are also guilty of what went on. Well, it's going to be revealed regardless. Watch The Tower fall.

5. The racism, sexism and plain ugliness of the remarks directed
towards Judge Sotomayor just make me cringe. The one about her menstruation was beyond the pale.

6. Except that the creatures under rocks are
very important to plant growth and soil health. Worms, nematodes, millipedes... all good little creatures without which, there would be no food for us. So, this is a necessary series of discoveries for the health and well-being of our democracy. And who knows what a few handfuls of compost will cook up? Perhaps a faster period of growth and an earlier harvest.

Can you tell I've gardening this week? :P

And we knew that most of the GOP leadership held these bigoted beliefs - nice to have these comments on tape for the next time they run for re-election, the women and latinos can be reminded in case they have short memories.

13. you nailed it
and don't forget one of the ugliest rocks of them all. The torture rock. It's coming out....all of it. There is no keeping that ugly truth buried much longer.

Obama is between a rock and a hard place on that one. The more he resists releasing the photos, the more their contents will be forced to the surface. Waterboarding is just the littlest worm in that wormhole.

14. Totally agree
Torture is DEFINITELY one of the elements, and it does have to come out.

And you know what else qualifies as an overturned rock? Susan Boyle. She was a phenomenon that forced us to face our prejudice against "ugly" people, one of the last bastions of "acceptable" abuse. That woman was at the vanguard for changing the world--not only showing everyone that you really, REALLY can't judge a book by its cover, but also for making the judges kinder people. Hell, she got Simon to apologize to her for how rudely they treated her during the first round--that is one of the most amazing things I've EVER seen!

15. Now another Doctor who helped women had been assassinated
That will turn over some boulders and show the insanity of the people that promote murder disguised as "life". Can you get any worse double-speak than murder to promote life?

This might shed some light on the potential for domestic terrorism in this country, and how they have controlled people through their religious institutions (which I believe have been co-opted for the express purpose keeping the Republicans in power) . Tim McVey, Eric Robert Rudolph....... When you take people's minds you own them.

We are in interesting times. People are fighting the light big-time. The fear mongers are going for all they can at this point. I am hoping it will be their last hurrah.

More Woes for Brown as Fourth Minister Resigns

Prime Minister Gordon Brown faced a political nightmare Wednesday with the resignation of his fourth government minister in two days on the eve of local and European elections in which his Labor Party appeared headed for perhaps its worst defeat in history.

Political analysts said Brown's predicament is so severe that he could possibly be forced out, after months of anemic popularity ratings and more recently a parliamentary expense-abuse scandal that has reached the highest levels of his cabinet.
